Hi Vicki :-)

I wondered if you knew this Dr. Schulman. I don't know her at all,

but got her name off of the list of doctors who are knowledgable and

use the antibiotic protocol (AP or AT :-), ane that is made by the

rheumatic.org group. I know you've bounced the idea of the

antibiotic protocol off of some of your doctors......have you ever

discussed it with Dr. Schulman?

I couldn't get the link to work....but will keep trying a bit later.

Hope you are doing OK. I know you must be getting excited to go to

the MAA Conference.

Take care, hope you have a great day,

Connie

Hi Connie.... Yes, Dr. Kempf and I both talked with her about the

Antibiotic therapy. She's the one that told us that only a small

percentage of patients will see results with the antibiotics and it has

to be caught in the very early stages to see a good response. At that

time they had already received in two more patients that had been on the

antibiotic therapy for over a year and came to the clinic for help.

She said she see's a place for the antibiotic use but it's not for all.

I'm getting really excited about the conference. I can't wait to meet

the people. I'm sure it's going to be a lot of fun.... something we all

need.

Take care,

Vicki

Hi Vicki :-)

If Dr. Schulman were to talk with some of the more experienced

antibiotic protocol prescribing doctors (sounds like a mouth-full :-0)

she would find out that they are seeing around 90 percent favorable

responses.....not the reverse. This is even with the long-standing

and severe patients who have tried and failed all of the traditional

meds. (I can give you some hard data on that, if you like.)

I know Dr. Franco in Riverside is seeing an overwhelming success

rate, as are several others. Dr. Franco gets lots of patients who

only heard about the therapy late in the game, so to speak, and with

patience, they make good progress, too. There have been a couple of

physician's seminars that have addressed some of the early problems

that might make a prescribing doctor think that the therapy is not

working, where in fact, it just needs some adjustment. Dr. Franco

was honored just this past May by the California State Senate " in

recognition of outstanding service to the community. "

So....I feel badly that some doctors are disuading some people from

using this treatment when it just might be able to help them. I'll

keep chiming in....especially if it will help someone some time. The

choice is out there for people who want to pursue it...and at least

give it a try, hopefully with one of the more experienced docs.

........gotta run for now :-) my sis just called.

Take care,

Connie

Hi Vicki,

.....I'm trying to read between the lines here.....I'm guessing that

you are not at all impressed by the claims that the antibiotic

protocol is indeed a valuable treatment for the various rheumatic

diseases. I think I understand....although make no claims to know

what another person is thinking/feeling...etc.

Yes, there are a lot of highly qualified doctors who have deep

reservations/concerns/doubts about the antibiotic protocol (AP). On

the other side of the coin are the growing numbers of highly

qualified doctors who may have first been taught that there is no

promise in the AP, but who have found that, once they understand the

protocol and it's implications, that the AP not only makes sense, but

that it should be the course of action taken in most cases of

rheumatic disease.

After becoming ill with DM in 1996, I have experienced a nearly

complete return to my previous health.....to which I credit the AP. I

have also met and corresponded with many people who have experienced

the same. There are literally thousands of people who have chosen

this route and are glad they did. There are undoubtedly cases where

peope do not achieve desired results...but these are far fewer

occurances for those who are able to find a doctor who understands

the many nuances of the treatment. What might be deemed a failure of

treatment by the physician who only reluctantly prescribes the AP

might instead be treated differently by the physician who knows there

are adjustments that can be made.

I think we might have to agree to disagree, here, Vicki :-) That's

OK with me. There are many areas in healthcare where there is

considerable disagreement. I think it is just part of the process.

I just want people to know that there is an " alternative " .....even

though the word 'alternative' conjures up meanings of all kinds of

kinky treatments. In this case, maybe " choice " would be a better

word. I want people to know that there is indeed a viable choice in

this matter. I wouldn't change any part of my treatment/recovery.

Go ahead and send anything you want.....we're grown-ups here, and I

hope friends, too :-) We just might see things differently at times.

Take care, I hope the coming cooler weather helps you to get outside

a little easier.
