Guest guest
Hi Lorraine What other problems have you been having with your daughter? I'm just curious as I worry daily about what my daughter will encounter as she grows and has to deal with any remaining asymmetry from her tort and plagio. She is currently in her second DOC Band. This may be a really stupid question but what is a crossbite and what kind of asymmetry have you been dealing with? Also, did your daughter ever have a band? If so, what was her correction like? Do you have any pictures posted? Sorry for so many questions but I want to do everything for my daughter that I can and I guess I just don't know when everything needs to be done. Your experience will help me a lot. Thanks Dawn - 1st DOC Band 3/04, 2nd DOC Band 7/04 tort resolved Went for a Orthodontic evaluation today > Hi I'm a very old timer in this group and still a lurker. Guest guest
A Cross bite is when the bite is not symetrical or missaligned from the jaw bone and not the actal teeth. Her teeth are ok its her jaw bone thats crooked. Its not that bad but bad enough where it needs to be fixed and I was told by the Cranio Dr to wait till she was 5. Once a baby has tort the tort is kinda always there and can go and come back when the child is tired sick or growing and the muscle needs to strenghten again. We are Doc grad who stopped treatment at 18 mths because 4 years ago they dident recommend it after 18 mths. Looking back I should have insisted a second band and they left it up to me and because it was up to me I stopped treatment. Her plagio isant severe its moderate but her teeth are right on one side of her mouth and the lower teeth on the bottom are more forward that the top.. only on one side .. so her bit is half side the wrong way around (teeth should come over bootom). We got some correction from the band but not much because I started too late because of family pressure not to do it. Looking back I should have gone with my insticts when I first felt them. Now I dont listen to anyone but me beacause I'm the one who lives with this guilt and they still think nothing is wrong with her. My husband in the casting couldent see anything wrong with her even then till I showed him the headsickle. Lorraine. > Hi Lorraine > > What other problems have you been having with your daughter? Guest guest
Lorraine, I am surprised to hear they said you wouldn't get any more correction from the DOC band after 18 months 4 years ago. My daughter, Tatijana, is 5 years old now as well, and didn't get into her DOC band until she was 19 months old. She graduated at 21 months old and got pretty good correction. I just had my daughter at the dentist, and was thinking about asking him when he said she had a very deep bite if this could have been caused by the plagio. I just didn't get the question asked. He did say that when her permanent teeth come in she may need braces because of it. Right now her mouth is not over crowded. Its nice to hear from someone else who has a child that went through the treatment a few years ago. Guest guest
Ct dident say we wouldent get any more correction, they said we probably wouldent and it was my decision. I based my decision wrongly in hinesight based on at that point Insurance hadent paid for band (they later paid 100%), we dident have $7000 for 2 helmets as I dident work then and had 2 small kids and was scared about the bill and the travelling in a old car. If we could see the future we could make better decisions. I try to keep in touch with this site to let others make better decisions from my exsperiences. If I had heard about older kids getting correction I would have done it in a heartbeat and not cared about the money, but at that point 4 years ago they werent telling me that at CT in Miami.
