Thanks for your reply Barbara. I think our audiologist is getting tired

of trialling hearing aids for us, but we haven't tried any of the Phonaks,

so maybe we can try them. I wonder if the in-the-shop record for the

Novo Fortes that you experienced is the same for other people? I always

get so frustrated when a hearing aid has to go in for repairs.

As for the boyfriend thing, Kathy has already picked out her future

husband, a sweet boy with a similar hearing loss, who " likes big hugs

and lots of kisses " - her criteria for a match at this point. Kathy is

such a toucher, it came hard to her to have to stop the hugs and kisses

when we went to a mainstream school. The kindergarteners there are just

starting into the " cooties " phase and didn't appreciate the hugs.

My son also wears the Novo Fortes, has had them for just over two

years, and they spent a lot of time in the shop the first year. BUT

he was just a baby, and had a habit of dashing them to the floor or

throwing them in the baby food. Since they went off warranty last

March, only one has had to go in, and they completely revamped it:

new switch, new mic, new casing. And no more problems. So not sure

what the issues were, the aids or my son, probably a combo, but

they're doing great now, and he gets GREAT gain from them.

Stefanie

mom to Ben, 2 1/2, severe SN bilateral loss, Phonak Novo Fortes

P.S. We're now looking into digitals, since he'll start preschool and

most likely get an FM system. Since he'll probably have the FM and

the aids for several more years, I want to upgrade the whole system

now, so will be looking at the Claros and Widex Senso P38s.
