I occasionally take DLPA which is similar, good for a quick energy and mood

boost.

Are you weaning off nice and slowly? You need to make no more than a 10%

reduction each time and then wait until things have stabilised before reducing

again.

I used 5HTP and Valerian to help me wean off.

Who is Andy?

I am weaning of Lexapro as I don't want to be on SSRI's and have

started taking 5HTP. Am having horrible side effects from coming of

the Lexapro. Dizzy, shaking, low moods, low motivation and nausea.

The 5HTP is a precurssor to serotonin and Trysone to Dopamine. I read

also that it is also o precurssor to T3 and T4 and therefore would

assist the thyroid--- I am wondering if it would be like an increase

in Armour?

Any info or stories of use would be appreciated.

I was considering this too, but would also like to get

feedback from others before adding another pill to my

regime.

I am taking N-acetyl-L-Tyrosine (bioavailable form) as well as Armour and HC,

and I DO notice a difference in my overall mode since taking the L-tyrosine. If

you do try it, make sure to ge the N-acetyl form as it is the best for immediate

use in the body.

o - I was on 20mg of Lexapro and then went straight to 10mg so its my

fault. I just so want to get of the SSRI's and when I researched 5HTP I

knew it was the way to go. I am also taking more zinc which is needed

in the whole neurotransmitter process.

I will wait another week before lowering to 5mg. The pills only come in

20 and 10mgs so 5% is not going to happen.

Do you still take 5HTP? Did you have any reactions taking it with an

SSRI? They warn everyone not to take both

Did I say say 5%. Sorry that should have read 10%, my apologies, not at all

well at the moment.

You really do need to wait until you feel stable on the lowered dose and

then reduce by cutting 10% off the pill with a blade if necessary or a

pill-cutter.

I certainly would not advise you to take another 50% cut right now as it

will whack your adrenals apart from anything else I believe.

I understand that you just want to get off the SSRIs. I have been there and

I recognise that sentiment BUT you are being an enemy to your health by doing

this too quickly. Take your time and will be a smoother ride all round if you

do.

I went to liquid Prozac when it got to the point where I needed to make very

small cuts as this was easier with the syrup. You may be able to switch over

to Prozac which is easier to withdraw from than what I was originally takng

- Seroxat.

Yes I have seen the literature that SSRIs and 5HTP should not be taken

together but I feel if you add in 5HTP as you arer reducing the SSRI then it

should be OK. One should, in theory, counterbalance the other.

Good luck.

Dove Rose - my bottle says free-form L Tyrosine. Is that the same as N-

acetyl-L-Tyrosine do you think? It also says its best to take with

carbos rather than protien.

Bill - Armour is expensive here in Aust (like everything when you are

trying to look after your health :( ) My TSH shows normal range but I

have antibodies and mid range T3 and T4. So I guess I will try it and

see how my BBT is going and add more Armour if necessary.
