North Carolina uses minutes. They are on a printed page matching the other

IEP sheets

Is it " law " that minutes must be taken during each ppt/iep meeting?

Does this happen automatically or do you have to request minutes be

taken in advance?

Sorry for ALL the questions/concerns I have been posting regarding

this, hopefully once I get thru my FIRST PPT/IEP meeting I will know

what exactly to expect in this process.

It certainly is not *federal* law, but it may be required by your state

administrative rules for special education. You will have to check

there to find out. I have noticed there are many anguished posts about

official minutes, and I'm clueless about it, since it is neither a

federal requirement, nor a state one, for me.

Hi Celeste! In Texas, it is a law. Not only that, but they must also provide

you with a

copy of those minutes. I think the last IEP we had for JD ended up being 23

pages (too

lazy to go dig it out and look). Of course, they made so many changes and we had

them make

so many changes (to more accurately reflect what was actually said) after the

first

meeting that it's hardly readable any more.

For example, at least 5 times in the document they said " NISD can provide an

appropriate

education for " and I had them change it to " NISD believes they can provide

an

appropriate education for . " Amazingly they didn't question any of our

changes -

probably because we didn't contest any of theirs (some of them even matched!)

Hugs,

Kay
