Guest guest
I know that exercise is supposed to be beneficial to those suffering from fibro so I go to a yoga class every week in addition to moderate walking. Unfortunately, there are days when I feel that the physical activity makes my symptoms worse. Does this happen to anyone else? Roseanna Sure does, I joind Curves and had to quit after 7 times. I hurt so bad after, not good exercise hurt, but worse fibro pain. I tried later and the same thing happened. I have heard this from others also. Guest guest
Definitely Roseanna. Right now I'm having trouble with my left hip...had xrays last week. Dr thinks it may be arthritis, but who knows. Anyway, I love to walk each morning, but I feel much better when I don't It's hard to push yourself to do something when you know you're going to feel worse afterwards. Guest guest
The key to exercising with Fibro is 'to pace yourself' especially if you haven't done anything physical in awhile such as going to the gym or station training. We can't treat our bodies like we once did, however exercise IS good for us BUT one should start slow. 5-10 minutes (no joking, sounds silly but true) if you are okay the next day then continue, if sore or hurt take a break until better and decrease the time until what you do does not cause pain the next day. Gradually and I mean gradually increase the time. Everyone is different so someone may be able to only do 5-10 minutes at at time where someone else may be able to do 20 or 30 minutes with no problems. YOU know your body best so instead of doin NOTHING, just walk around the block once, then twice, increase to 2 blocks etc build up your own resistance then you can add other activities such as yoga, tai chi, pilates, cardio equipment etc Sistirmoon@... wrote: I know that exercise is supposed to be beneficial to those suffering from fibro so I go to a yoga class every week in addition to moderate walking. Guest guest
I've always walked, and have never had a problem with it until a couple months ago when my left hip/sacro joint started acting up. I hate to have to give up my walking because everything else has been taken away over the years. You'd never know I used to be an aerobics teacher Hugs.....ValFriends are the angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.http://www.valleyeasttoday.ca/evergreengardenshttp://www.infocomcanada.com/GabbyChic/ The key to exercising with Fibro is 'to pace yourself' especially if you haven't done anything physical in awhile such as going to the gym or station training. Guest guest
Unfortunately, it's the nature of the best Roseanna Not much we can do about it. I've had some bug since yesterday morning and haven't done much of anything....of course, my muscles/hip/sacro joints all feel great with the lack of movement Hugs.....ValFriends are the angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.http://www.valleyeasttoday.ca/evergreengardenshttp://www.infocomcanada.com/GabbyChic/ WOW, Val, no truer words were ever spoken! Guest guest
Roseanna ... Yes, it sure happens to me. However I have found that exercising three or more times a week, and doing it in moderation is better. Only doing it once a week is just not often enough IMO. Your body is having to recover from the stress (of the exercise) each week and I believe it becomes more accustomed to that stress if you do it more often. The BIG issue for me, and for most of us I believe, is that when you are depressed or just not feeling well its almost impossible sometimes to get yourself up and motivated to go do the workout. Its definitely a vicious cycle. When I can muster up the courage and intestinal fortitude to go more often I definitely feel better. Just getting those endorphins flowing (alone) makes me feel better emotionally and that's half the battle. I have been lurking in this group for quite awhile, and thought that maybe its time for me to jump in. I am definitely new to the group except for looking and have had fibromyalgia since originally diagnosed in 1979. Since I retired it has become worse, and the pain is often excruciating . It is sometimes so debilitating that I find that the only thing that I can do is go to bed. My wife just doesn't understand, and I think that it scares her when I do do that for more than a day or two. However, after being married since 1984 she has somewhat become accustomed I think. Fortunately, she is a strong lady emotionally, or she probably would have left long ago. I am a lucky man in that regard. The issue that I am dealing with at the moment is a rash of headaches which occur each morning. I have been dealing with it, but wonder if there may be a similarity in this group that I have found for myself. That similarity (hopefully) is a mouth full of mercury amalgam tooth fillings. My mouth is simply full of them from my days as a youngster when we went to the dentist regularly and when there was no fluouride in our water and the toothpaste had not been treated either. I have begun to wonder seriously if the possibilty exists that many other of us in this group has this same issue. I also wonder if any studies have been done on this issue, and wonder if anyone in this group is familiar with this issue, and has done any research on the matter. I would greatly appreaciate any insight that any of you may have with this matter. I also wish to say that I feel in my heart the pain that most in this group feel most of the time, and hope that each of you has a good day today. Guest guest
Hello, All: Well, at my doc apt yesterday, he did stress that I should do some kind of exercise....swimming / riding a bike... something that is not an "impact" sport like running/jogging is. Look for yard sales, Gals and see if you can find a stationary bike...that way it is at your pace...in the A/C while listening to music or watching T.V. and you can still watch the youngins...if you have any. 'Have to get my old Mountain Bike out of storage...if you buy a bicycle, try to get one with wide tires...find it is better on your body and booty too...Oh, yeah, try to get one of those 'padded' seats for more comfort too. Good luck, all....
Guest guest
My chiro has been telling me all summer to start doing something else besides walking...which I love to do. He suggested aquacise or biking too. I hate the thought of going to a public pool however....I'm a wee bit paranoid about germs seeing as I catch everything LOL! He thinks I've just worn out my hip/sacro joints from decades of walking, and he wants me to still be moving in another ten years Hugs.....ValFriends are the angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.http://www.valleyeasttoday.ca/evergreengardenshttp://www.infocomcanada.com/GabbyChic/ Hello, All:Well, at my doc apt yesterday, he did stress that I should do some kind of exercise....swimming / riding a bike... something that is not an "impact" sport like running/jogging is.Look for yard sales, Gals and see if you can find a stationary bike...that way it is at your pace...in the A/C while listening to music or watching T.V. and you can still watch the youngins...if you have any.'Have to get my old Mountain Bike out of storage...if you buy a bicycle, try to get one with wide tires...find it is better on your body and booty too...Oh, yeah, try to get one of those 'padded' seats for more comfort too.Good luck, all....
