Hi

You CAN do something about pitting odema. I have had this for years but I now

keep it under control by taking Co-Amilozide.

Lynda,

There are OTC diuretics available here in the states. Like those for

premenstrual

swelling. It's just that there's always the issue of becoming dehydrated and

messing

up the electrolyte balance. These types of OTC diuretics might be okay on an

infrequent basis, like once a month, in healthy people. Don't want to insult

anyone

here, but if one is say over 40-45, it may just be a band-aid to heart problem

that

should be addressed. If one is having consistent problems with edema, there's

probably a heart and/or circulation problem that should be assessed and

monitored.

Sorry, but it should involve a doctor.

These types of meds are often prescribed as a first-line med to reduce blood

pressure by ridding the body of excess fluid. But it all comes down to " why is

the

patient retaining fluid. "

anything, the only prescription he knows how to write is for antidepressants.
