Guest guest Posted June 14, 2001 Report Share Posted June 14, 2001 That's one thing I don't like about western religions, they promote the idea that I have to be good not because I love, and want to, but because if I am Naughty, bad things will happen to me. the whole religion is based on fear, of going to hell, One should do good things, because you love, and doing good things makes you happy. not because your trying to save yourself from a hell. He also has a hereditary disease called Praderilly Syndrome. I was diagnosed with NF2 in 1984. I have had close to 20 surgeries since then. From removing 5 brain tumors, 3 spinal tumors and facial reconstruction. As with many NF2ers I have had a few religious experiences when I was close to death. (Got meningitis and staff infection in 1984)I had one foot in the grave. Love on its own will not get you there. A common verse to refer to is: 3:16 " For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. " (NIV) Another verse 14:6-7 " Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would n\know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him. " (NIV) The question asked " why to children go to heaven " is a good question. I am going to research that one. I don't know have the answer for that but am working on it. I know is my granddaughter's death at 1 hour old she was baptized in the birthing room. He didn't have a pastor and I am sorry that your pastor was so limited in his relationship with God. Jim was alone and close to death himself when he gave his life to Christ. Weird for my email. Doesn't seem to come through in order. There has been a lot of good responses to Bob' s experience. There are all kinds of misguided people in every profession (churches included). I was going to ask my pastor Bob's question about the children. I always assumed the children go to heaven because of their age and innocence. There is that verse in the Bible in 18 where Jesus' disciples ask him " Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven " Then Jesus called a little child and had him stand among them. Jesus answers " I tell you the truth unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. " In my Sunday School class we are " walking through the Bible. " We are about up to 18. Should be there in three weeks. I will ask in class, also, for their interpretations to share with you. I liked Pete's humor about 5 and under get in free...... and the seniors get a discount! Thank you for your bible verses they help. I'm sorry Bob had a bad experience with his pastor. I see some of the fancy sets that religious shows have and how they want me to send them money. Yeah right. Unfortunately, in religion, as in everything, people do things or don't do things that they should. We are all human and no one is perfect. My mom's family was Jehovah's Witness when she was a child. She had to go door to door like they all do. She lived in the bible belt and some of the Baptist's were very mean to her. Now, surely that doesn't mean all Baptists are bad. I hope not. I just signed my children up for Vacation Bible school at a Baptist Church that isn't even my own church. :-) Here's hoping everyone finds what works for them. :-) Re: Who is God ? No one does. there is no way possible that our little 5 pound brains can comprehend an infinite God. we cant even come close. When one person or even a group of people tell me they know for sure how and why we are here I just giggle inside. I know it just isn't possible. we as humans have tried to explain God, and those ideas and books and teachings are just the begining. not the end of the search. A few months ago I did what jesus said. I became like a child. I started from the ground up. This is how I started I knew that Everything living thing has memory. and that memory passes from generation to generation. I also knew I breath and eat, so does everyone else. these cells that have memory move from one body to the next. what was in me will move on to others. We are all conected. Everything on this planet is connected to every part inside you. I am as much you as you are me. The concept is very simple. Nothing dies. There is change but we go on. All your cells have memory, and that memory goes on! I think that is one reason that there are so many " Crazy " people that think they are christ. because we each have little cells inside us that have christ's memory!
