Guest guest
Hi Dara Congratulations!!! Can you tell me more about your decision to get the third band? Did you have any measurements taken? Where did you want to see improvement and did you see it there? Just wondering as we are currently in our second band and because I want to ensure that my daughter gets as much correction as possible the thought of a third band is in the back of my head.... Any info you can give me is much appreciated! Thanks! Guest guest
As we were nearing the end of our second band, I was grateful for the progress made, but there was one area of his head that was still nagging at me. The area behind his ear, really the side of his head. I noticed it most looking from behind him, could still see significant asymmetry. One side was round and the other still appeared flat. I say that Jonah has plagio, but it really a combo of plagio/scapho, so the side of his head where the flat spot is still appeared long to me, although improved (hope that makes sense) We went to see the craniofacial doc and he said that we had acheived 80% correction. Well that is great except that is what he said as we were nearing the end of the first band. Then CT took measurements again, confirming what I thought I was seeing, and they did not change at all in that area. I did not say anything at the time, as I did not really know there was the option of the third band. And then I came to this board one night, after not being here for awhile, and there was a post about third bands. what fate! And so I started thinking. . . I asked at our next CT appt and we decided to do it. But then There was some disagreement among the therapists as to whether a third band was recommended. I was strongly warned that a third band may not bring on any more correction, given there was so little correction in the second band. But after hearing about sarah's Hannah's success at the time, and my thinking was that some babies are not even banded the first time until Jonah's age (then 14 months) so why not go for it, we had come this far, I wanted to know we did everything we could. To make a long story just a little shorter, I was contacted by the Carol son of CT and we talked it over and decided to go ahead with it. (she was great, by the way-if all company's had as good customer service as I got at CT then I would have a lot of happier days) I beleive we did not have more correction in the second band because Jonah did no have any good growth spurts during that time-he was sick alot last winter with brnchitis and the onset of asthma, and my theory is that most of his energy was taken up by illness and not used for growing. Luckily right after we got the third band he had a huge growth spurt. I also used an osteopath during this time to do some craniosacral work and I beleive this helped to. Jonah's measurements in cranial asymmetry started at 13mm, went to 10mm in band 1, stayed at that in band 2 and then went to 5mm in band 3. We also say additional correction in his forhead, and ear alignment, not down to 1mm. Well this was kind of long, but I hpe it helps in some way. I always say go with you gut. Guest guest
Wow Dara, how interesting about his measurements. He must not have grown much at all in that second band and then made up for it in his third band . Hannah was really in a growth rut for awhile as well, and I too think we got more correction out of her third band than her second. Can't wait to see his pics! --- In Plagiocephaly , " darabeth2003 " <dalewine@c...> wrote: > Jonah's measurements in cranial asymmetry started at 13mm, went to > 10mm in band 1, stayed at that in band 2 and then went to 5mm in band > 3.
