A few weeks ago I posted the results of my thyrogen scan and

the recommendation from a doctor (not my endo) in the

Endocrine clinic to get RAI treatment this summer. Last week

my Endo advised me to have a repeat thyroid surgery instead to

remove the regrowth from my supposedly total thyroidectomy in

March of 2000. He also said since my cancer was so small

(.5 cm) that I would need to have RAI after the surgery unless the

pathology from the surgery showed cancer. I am just curious if

you experts out there (thyca patients) would agree with that

approach.

Sincerely,

(tabrc2002)

TT 3/2000

..5 cm pap. follicular variant

thyrogen scan 5/02 showed significant uptake in the thyroid bed

no mets

Hi -

I can't answer your question, but wanted to let you know I'm in the

same boat! I am having my annual TBS this week and my doc suspects

new growth since total thyroidectomy in 2000 and has hinted at more

surgery and/or radioactive iodine ablation. I'll let you know what

recommendations I get after the scan results. Have you been kept at

suppressed TSH levels since your surgery? Also did you have

thyroglobulin checked after scan? I've read that it is the best

marker following TT.

Best Regards,

Joni
