Guest guest
athan, Sorry to hear about you CT scans and elevated CA19-9 markers. I've certainly been there. You may recall that my markers almost doubled in a one year stretch - with 296 as the high before I was listed high on the tx list. Some centers use 30 as the normal range value, mine uses 100 so mine was nearly 3x what was considered by them to be within normal range. They went to an ERCP next, since it had been almost a year since my last one, and the final results were negative for cancer. The GI told us and filed in his report that I had CC. Since the tx team had conflicting dx, they scheduled a PET scan. Very expensive but one of the best tools for dx small cancerous tumors. It came back inconclusive as well but showed 3 hot spots suggestive of cancer - 1 in the upper lobe, 1 in the lower lobe and one on the common bile duct. Short story already long, they moved me up the list and performed a open biopsy first and then the tx if cancer wasn't found in the bile ducts are surrounding tissues. May want to discuss a PET scan with your dr as soon as possible. http://www.jhbmc.jhu.edu/Imaging/pet.html , Also saddened to hear of you brother's possible dx. Prayers to him, you and the entire family. Darin
