Guest guest
I finally got my cousin's meat grinder today!! It's pretty massive though- it's a behemoth! Happy I didn't have to buy yet another thing. Spent a pretty fortune on the Omega juicer and the pressure cooker!! And all of that stool testing (I hope insurance will kick in.. Wouldn't it be nice if we could get some kind of deduction or something equipping our kitchens and buying healthy food?? Well, I'd start at universal healthcare for all- ok need to focus and stay on topic) Anyway, for the life of me I have no idea where I am going to store this grinder!! I have cabinet space that reaches the ceiling it's just so exhausting to climb up and get everything all the time. I am only 5'1. Does anyone have good directions as to what cuts of meat I should buy if I am trying to watch fat consumption? Fat from meat totally disagrees with me. I am going to try the bison and ostrich route in due time when I am feeling a little better. For now I would like to stick with chicken, turkey, beef (even veal) and I don't really eat pork. Do I need any added fat in there so it will cook well and stay patty like? Does lean meat have enough fat in it without added fat? Also, has anyone ever made fish patties from a grinder that sounds good too. Define " does meat stick in the Maverick #5? " I've had mine for six years. Although it's not warrantied for it, I even used it to grind chicken wings and drumsticks WITH bones to make raw cat food for my 19 year old Maine Coon. Sounded like h---, but it did it! I've had it bog a bit when stuffing 2 heads of Romaine lettuce, two bunches green leaf lettuce, two bunches red leaf lettuce, 2 pounds of carrot, a pound of spinach, 2 pounds of zucchini, 2 pounds of cucumbers, broccoli and cauliflower and asparagus stems, and 2 pounds of green beans. The reason it bogged was because I discovered I needed to alternate the leafy veggies with things like the zucchini and cucumber to keep the amount of liquid up. BTW, this was " veggie slop " for the dogs, not for human consumption, although it would probably add some flavor to a broth mixture. I've had dried apples argue with me a bit. Other than that, it's taken everything I've thrown at it. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
How small do you have to chop the meat into? Do you find that putting meat in too quickly will cause the machine to totally stop? I've never managed to put meat in too quickly, because I work at a steady pace. Although I am eager to get things done, I don't have the stamina to keep up a frenetic pace. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
