Guest guest
Hi Oliver, It's nice to meet you although I truly wish it were under other circumstances. Because I just recently joined the group I don't know if you've already shared about what causes your chronic pain. I would very much like to hear your story. I have RSD in my left foot and DDD in my lumbar spine. After experiencing increasing side effects from methadone my PM doc and I decided to go a different treatment route for awhile. It was horrible getting off methadone!!! Literally two weeks of withdrawal symptoms on top of the pain. There were times I thought I'd never get through it. I gradually started back on Norco after weaning off methadone! My PM doc and I discussed Fentanyl patches and he felt that it was a last resort. He didn't want to prescribe Fentanyl because of the side effects that many of his patients have gone through while on it. What anti-depressant do you take? Are you increasing the Tramadol while reducing the Fentanyl? Are you planning to replace the Fentanyl with some other med regimen to help deal with the pain? I try to eat a pretty healthy diet and have eliminated coffee, chocolate and most sugar. Very rarely I'll have a glass of wine but for all intents and purposes I've eliminated that as well. I do believe that a healthier diet and vitamins have been helpful in terms of managing constipation due to the narcotics and knowing that I'm taking care of myself. In spite of all this depression hits me a lot! My PCP has suggested an anti-depressant and I even tried Cymbalta but didn't do well on it. Sorry for the long note...it's good to meet you and I hope someone here is able to answer your question about coming off Fentanyl. ~Carol
