Hi Kim,

I eat similar to you but of course, I'm way behind you regarding the healing process. I've answered more fully on SCDinfo.

Just to say again for this group that I'm glad that you developed a program for yourself where you feel good and I admire how you explain it and help folks. I am not sure about eating fruit with a meal because I've had decades experience finding that that doesn't work for me. I still tend to think that fruit and meat don't mix well for me and I notice digestive problems and feeling miserable if I try that. My ND told me to remember to keep using complementary nutrition when I started SCD, so it does confuse me a bit to know that you and Mara, I believe, and maybe others, like to eat fruit with meals.

I read this week in Gut and Psychology Syndrome about it, too. GAPS is based on SCD and Dr. Natasha -McBride says: "Fruit, apart from avocado, generally interferes with the digestion of meats and should be eaten between meals."

Anyway, I'm so glad that you have figured out what is suitable for you. I know we are all different.

And, I agree that eating every 2 hours is what I need to do, and I became a bit lax on that. I'm back at it!

thanks a lot, Kim

I replied more fully to this question in the other SCD group I'm in (SCDInfo), so I won't go into detail here. I have to pay attention to my carbs since I'm prone to hypoglycemia, and have fluctuating blood sugar levels along with functional upper GI disorders.

I do well eating low to medium carb SCD foods as long as I eat something every 2 hours, and make sure I get protein throughout the day. I eat a lot of cooked veggies along with the protein. My digestion doesn't tolerate the high-carb veggies like butternut squash at all, but I can get away with cooked carrots or beets once a week.

I only have one or two fruit servings per day, either juiced or cooked, using low-sugar fruits. I eat the fruit with a meal to avoid extreme blood sugar fluctuations. I don't eat dairy. Don't tolerate honey. I only tolerate one nut flour muffin per day. My digestion doesn't tolerate fiber, fat or seasonings either, which limits me to some degree.

Works for me anyway. The important thing is to eat small meals frequently. And I make sure I balance my carbs with protein.

I must be doing something right, as I've gained enough weight now that I have to cut back and try to exercise more [sigh].
