Guest guest
For those of you that already have the dx what was the process for the eval to get the dx. I know I have to take Mark for the evaluation first, but I hear some of you talking about how there are a number of test to be run and it takes months for the final dx. To me I guess the offical dx doesn't mean anything, I know who my son is and how he is, but I know the dx will help him get more services. I have been putting this off because of my job not being understanding about me missing work for these reasons, and I really can't lose my job. So my question is how many evaluations have to be done, how long do they take, etc? This way I can plan on how much work I will be missing for this, and everything else. I know I will have to drive at least an hour or more to go anywhere qualified to do the evaluation. And for those of you in WI where did you go for the evaluation? And what did you like/dislike about where you took your kids. Thanks Tina W.
Guest guest
Tina, the first thing I would do is join your state list (search on yahoo for Autism WI) and find out who is the person to see in your area. There may be several options & you can see which ones your insurance will pay for, who can get you in when, if you can get the county or state to help pay for it, etc. You could see a psych, a neurologist, a developmental pediatrician, a behavioral ped...the list goes on. The most important thing is that they know about autism. One person we saw had us come 4 different times. I think that was the most accurate assessment but it was also a big PITA and it cost a lot more money which we had to pay out of pocket. The other 2 did everything in one day & one mailed us their report & the other had us come back to meet & talk about it. You definitely need the dx to get the services your son is entitled to. Even with it getting them will be a fight... As far as your job, that totally sucks and I'm really sorry. Legally they have to give you the time (unpaid) under the Family Leave Act but that doesn't mean they won't find other ways of getting rid of you... Good luck Tina... -Sara. Guest guest
And for those of you in WI where did you go for the evaluation? And > what did you like/dislike about where you took your kids. > Thanks > Tina W. Tina-- i took jenna to the Marshfield Clinic, its about a 2 1/2 hour drive for us..but they are a bunch of great people there...after i left her dad in feb..that month i called and it took until april to get the 1st appointment..then one in May, then july, and we have one coming up in Oct...Its a long wait, but well worth it. they have an autism clinic..which jenna went thru..they try and get your appointments close together, to be able to see most of the docs on the same day..i think thats why it takes so long...i can give you the doctor's names jenna has seen if you want..there was quite a few of them. im not sure on how close you are to marshfield...i know there are also places in Milwaukee, which is probably furthur for you...Jennas first dx was in the school...they are they ones who had suspected autism, she was in the early childhood program...but we didn't do anything about it (awhole other story, because of her dad, not believing she is autistic)but when i did leave him we went right to it..she just turned 6 this past may...and she was in early childhood for 2 years...now into kindergarden.... i wish you lots of luck in starting all of it!!! nancy
Guest guest
, If you could get me those names that would be great! I don't think Marshfield is all to far for me a couple hour drive maybe. I dont' want to take him to children's hospital in Milw. because I have heard about a lot of people being unhappy with them for autism evals. if you want you can send that to me privately at tmwoelfel@... One thing I'm glad about is that I was granted sol decision making for any medical needs because of Mark's dx that he already has and my x totaly denies it. That give me the freedom to get whatever Mark needs medicaly without worrying if his dad agrees. Thank you very much. We saw an audiologist, then an SLP, who referred us to psych clinic; we saw the psych for 2 hours, she gave us the dx. Boom. Jacquie
Guest guest
I asked this morning how far Marshfield was. He thought it might be a 4 hour drive. But I'll still take the info because I'm willing to make the drive if they are good. And besides I might have a lot of time on my hands if I get fired. Tina W=who is trying to think of the bright side incase I do get fired. > > No problem Tina!!! > Thats good that Marshfield isn't too far away, > its about an hour south of Wausau..if that helps > any.... > and its a pretty cool town too...lots of stores, > restaurants..stuff to do inbetween times too! > > I will get all the information you need, doctors > names, what they do...and email them privately > to you after i get jenna off to school... > your very welcome~ > nancy
