First three questions. have you had your ferritin tested, aldosterone

levels tested and hormone levels tested? All three of those make it hard

fotr the meds to work, cause pain, cold, etc

Hi, Joan,

Your rheumatologist is closer to right than either the endo or the

neuro. Your labs show that you are in the lower ranges for your " Frees "

and even though your TSH is at the lower range, if the Free T4 and Free T3

are at the lower end of their ranges, then you probably could use some

change in your thyroid medication.

I use Armour with Cytomel because my doctor suspects that I am a " poor

converter " of T4 to T3. T4 is the " storage " thyroid hormone, while T3 is

the " active " one that the body needs.

Peripheral Neurapothy is typically found in persons with Diabetes, but

Hypothyroidism can also have this as a symptoms.

Do you have the option of changing doctors if the endo refuses to change

you over to Armour?

Dianne

Hi Joan. It is perfectly fine to jump right on in. Yes, go to the

FILES and read, read.

Your Free T3 is monstrously low. You will not find relief for your

symptoms until you find your free T3 towards the top of the range,

and you will NOT be able to to do that on Levoxyl. I, too, was

on .125, and am now on 3 grains Armour. HUGE difference in how I

feel and live my life.

Armour gives you exactly what your own thyroid would be giving you---

not only T4, but direct T3, T2, T1 and calcitonin. (The latter helps

keep the calcium in your blood--also very important.)

You need to warned that most Endo's are lousy. We call them

Synthroid-Nazi's. Yes, you could get on T3 along with your T4. But

even better, request Armour. And read the info in the FILES that

says Dr. Doctor, plus others. YOU, Joan, are your own best advocate.

The vast majority of docs out there are SOLELY UNINFORMED about good

thyroid treatment. They rely WAY too heavily on labs and routinely

ignore symptoms. They think that the TSH is God's standard--it is

NOT. Symptoms are FAR more important than ANY lab, Joan. If labs are

used, the best to know is your free T3. Your's is badly low and

explains all your symptoms.

Don't hesitate to ask any further questions. We are here for you!

Thank you Janie, Dianne, and Topper - I printed your responses and some of

the Files articles to bring with me to the doctor. She told me if I

wanted to do research, I should do it on neuropathy, because none of the

doctors know how to help me. But in doing, that, I was led to comments

about thyroid, which led me here. This may be an area I CAN do something

about, and feel better.

What is the connection with temperature.... mine is usually low 97's.

Many of the Files articles are way over my head and I will need to read

them multiple times to absorb the information. I see references here

to adrenal and ferritin and iodine and don't understand those connections to

thyroid problems, either. I'm so glad I found this site and am sure I

will learn a lot.

Is there any other test I should request from my doctor, other than a retest

of the T3, T4?

Thanks so much !!!

joan
