Guest guest
Hi Rosemary, Yep, Dr. S in Bridgeport did my surgery. It went really well. He said, " I took out a fibroid as big as my head! " Turns out I had two little ones and 1 giant one. He's great. I keep hearing more good things about him, and he is a very nice man. He says I should be able to have natural childbirth because of these advanced techniques he uses to reconstruct the uterus. That's amazing to me. I didn't need a blood transfusion. He actually prefers to not give one if at all possible, and build up the blood afterwards. I did lose a lot of blood but my blood was really good beforehand. I've been taking a natural iron supplement and also I started eating meat before the surgery, although I'm a vegetarian. I think all of this helped. My stay in the hospital was very short, I went home the morning of the third day. Dr. S gave orders to get me out of bed and off IV, morphine pump, and catheter the morning after my surgery. That was the hardest thing I've ever done but what I difference! I was taking walks down the hall by the afternoon, and ate a " real " dinner that night (not that hospital food is real...) I also was very active and took vitamin supplements in the months before the surgery, and I think that has really helped me too. Now I am very exhausted and weak which is so annoying! And I continue to run a low fever, which Dr. S says is common after myos. And it doesn't help that it is so hot right now in CT!!! My appetite seems to be back, and I only need motrin for the pain. I still can only walk about 15 minutes at a time, though! How annoying! The worst thing by far about surgery is recovering from anesthesia. I still get scared thinking about it. There was never any pain, and in fact they gave me my own morphin pump as soon as I was awake enough to communicate. But it just is so weird to be trying to wake up and not able to. My throat was so dry and sore! I really had to pee even though I had a catheter! Of course, it was scarey before I went into the OR, too, but the anesthesiologist smiled and gave me a happy drug and then everything got much better. Anyway. That's enough blabbing for now. So far I'm glad I have done the myo but I also realize it is a very big trauma to my body. I could not have anticipated how weak I'd be. It's definately a decision that should not be made lightly or quickly. best, Lara > Hi Lara, > > If I'm not mistaken, I beleive you are with Dr. S in Bridgeport, CT. If so, I'd really be interested in how your surgery went. I am about to schedule myself for an abdominal myomectomy with him. >
