Guest guest
Hi! I haven't been in touch for quite a while. I just got home from the rheumy where we discussed my teeth. I have had quite a bit of dental problems in the last two years. Terrible pain in my jaw. Infection in my bones. Teeth broken over eating soup, if you can believe it. Anyway, he said he doesn't know what the connection is, but it seems to be prevalent in DM/PM. He had put me on Probenecid in July to see if that might help with the calcinosis, he doubled the dose today even though I told him it makes me very nauseated and other stomach problems. He said to try to deal with it. Anyway, I think I have asked this question before on this bulletin board, but is there anyone else out there with severe calcifications and how are they being treated. Doesn't matter if juvenile or adult. Thanks, Martha
Guest guest
Hi Martha, It's funny, but some of us recently had discussions about our dental problems. Some of us experience cracked and broken teeth. My dentist insisted it's because I grind my teeth at night, but I've done that all my life, and never before had this problem. I had to go to him three times in three months last year from cracked and broken molars! I try to stay away from hard candy and caramel, but I still have trouble. It's got to be either our meds or our disease. I know Prednisone depletes calcium, at least I'm pretty sure I was told that years ago when I started taking it. You'll get responses from the others because we just discussed this. It's a terrible problem, I think. I can't afford expensive dental work and I'm so afraid one of my front teeth will break. Guest guest
Hi Martha... It's good to hear from you. I'm so sorry your having such a problem with the calcinosis. I sent an article to the list about treatment for it but it's the same as what your taking. I also checked other sites and it seems that drug is the best for this condition. I do believe however, that your doctor should have prescribed something for your nausea. It's not easy to take a drug that make's you ill. We have enough problems to face each day, including our teeth falling out, without having to deal with being nauseated. I'm sure you're taking it with something to eat... guess that doesn't help either. Have you tried Pepto-Bismol? Well, I'm not alone in my quest for good teeth. I get my teeth cleaned every 6 months and I have always rinsed with Peroxide. I have good gums so I don't understand why all the fragile teeth. It even surprised my last dentist. Now I have a new one so we'll see how he does. Miss ... are you alright?????? Cari... I'm staying down until I get past this weakness. I'm down to 8mgs of Prednisone so this should be really interesting to see how far I can get down to. Started taking my blood pressure today and it was 105/64, Pulse 94. If I go down to 7mgs next week and feel horrible then I'm going to the clinic for the test. I'll be glad when this is over with. Take care, Vicki
Guest guest
Hi Annette... You've got that right, dentist's are expensive... no matter how much the insurance pays they find a way to add to the bill.... You need this, You need that. Good grief! Hope you had a good day. Take care, Vicki
Guest guest
Vicki, Do you think you might be tapering the Prednisone too quickly? 1 mg a week seems like a lot to me. Just wondering. Glad you are trying to take it a little easy. I know that is hard when you have your babies waiting out in the barn to be fed! Pop in tomorrow and let us know how you are doing. Hugs, Cari >From: anzavic@... >Reply-To: OurMyositis >To: OurMyositis >Subject: Re: TEETH >Date: Tue, 28 Aug 2001 18:12:41 -0700 (PDT) > > > >Hi Martha... It's good to hear from you. Guest guest
I find that as long as I use Sensodyne tooth paste it really helps Teddi mailto:teddifromok@...
Guest guest
Teddi... You're right...Sesodyne really does help. I've been using it for years. It does nothing to protect my teeth from fracturing, but I can drink cold things with very little pain now.
