Hi Sandy, everything you write here is sooooo true. And you've made

me feel heaps better about not being able to get the Armour message

accross to that other group.

What Hypo symptoms are you going through? Do you intend to self

medicate? There are places you can order Armour (without

prescription) off the internet - myrxforless.com is one of them. My

good doc raised me 1/2 grain every 3 weeks & I'm now on 4 grains,

although I did have a sub-total thyroidectomy so no working thyroid.

(Guess I wanted a quick fix too really, I was told only 20% of

patients go underactive after surgery but later learned this figure

to be false, never mind, I got a lovely scar necklace now & I keep

hoping my thyroid will grow back one day!!)

If I'd stayed on the paltry 75 mcgs Sintrhoid my Endo wanted me to be

on, I'd be even further on my way to cretinism! I was exhausted,

bloated, couldn't poo & my eyes looked like two piss holes in the

snow. lol. Rebel - I recommend it!

I finally hacked my way into getting prescribed with Armour by

finding a good doc. Luckily in the UK thyroid sufferers get meds

free, so I get all my Armour for nothing, lucky hey?

Have you tried finding a doc off Shomon's top doc list on her

website? There is a list there who use Armour.

When you order your bloods, Free T4 & Free T3 are better indicators

of your actual thyroid status. My TSH is supressed, but my Free T4 &

Free T3 are in range (at the top end) & I feel better this way.

Thanks for the pregnancy story, so tragic. I know to continue all

thyroid meds if I ever get pg.

Lots of love, Fee x x x

> One of the things I've learned when dealing with people is that

they will believe what they choose to believe... I find a lot of

people are looking for the 'quick fix' and they think they've found

it when they hear the tales of how RAI will rid them of their

problem.

>I'm showing hypo symptoms now and although some people do well on

the synthetics, I have read enuff to know that sometimes Armour is

the best answer.

>I've ordered some since my Endo tells me that I'm 'in range' and I

don't have labs that require thyroid drugs yet. But he promises me

he'll 'work with me' when that time comes? lol. I'm wondering if I

have to be near a coma to get those drugs, so i just have to shop for

another dr who isn't just a #'s doc and listens to my symptoms

without just writing me off.

> I'm currently reading, Hypothyroidism, the Unsuspected Illness and

it's just awesome. One of the things this book discusses is multiple

miscarriages and one particular lady who when taking her thyroid

meds, carried her babies (3 out of 7). She would start to feel

better, then stop the thyroid drugs. Miscarriage would soon follow

when she would become pregnant but not be taking her thyroid drugs.

If my second dr had not made me go HypoT on too many ATD's, I'd have

prolly never known the difference, and just accepted everything I've

been told. I have to thank the dufus now in retrospect, cuz I've been

on both sides of the coin. In my opinion, neither is any fun. When I

was HyperT, I was worn out, and now that I'm HypoT, I'm still worn

out? lol. I just don't have the heart palps. I'm older, was in my

middle 40's when this lovely disease reared it's ugly head, and I've

never lost any substantial weight from hyperT/graves. I was one of

the 'lucky' ones who just gained weight! ackkk!

I'm tired of listening to dr's who are #'s people. I know how I feel

isn't normal for me. I ordered some Armour thyroid from

myrxforless.com on Good Friday. I was so irritated by my dr's

comments about how my severe constipation, being cold, awful looking

hair, carpal tunnel syndrome in left hand, Pain in back (like I broke

it) with no relief....and right leg & ankle pain, that I ordered two

bottles! lol.

What the Dr's don't seem to get is this: When I went hypo, my left

wrist and hand would fall asleep while I was driving to work. I work

on computers all day long at work, and I had to even get a wrist

brace. I even had the nerve test done, where the dr who did that said

I had much damage to the nerves cuz of the carpal tunnel and needed

surgery, the funny part was, when my ATD's were reduced, and I was no

longer HypoT, guess what went away? No more back pain and feeling

like I had been hit across the back with a 2x4, and no more carpal

tunnel syndrome, no more hair falling out just from running a rake

through my new (loose) perm......and the constipation was suddenly

gone. I was finally able to cook, clean house again, no more pain, and

I almost felt human again. At one point, I couldn't even stand for

any length of time, cuz my back was in such pain. That had been

checked out months before diagnosis, by a surgeon (one of the best in

Houston) and his response to me was......you do have a small amt of

arthritis in the back, but it should NOT be causing this type of pain,

from my MRI and told me to exercise. The best part was all the upper

respiratory infections I dealt with. I'd leave the PCP's office, with

a nebulizer and another med type thing for my asthma that I didn't

have? lol. Drs! They are so determined to think that we are all just

looking for a way to stuff food and not watch calories, or because of

our ages, they just 'assume' menopause or perimenopause, trying to

make us feel as if we don't know what we're talking about! It just

makes you wanna choke the life outta them once you get back the

strength to wrap your hands around their necks! (or that's what I'd

have loved to do). Now I just snicker when they get all technical

with me and start the wonderful sermon of " everything's just fine " it

can't possibly be your thyroid. ROFL The sad part is that we have to

rely on other laymen to help us figure all this out, when the Dr

SHOULD know that these symptoms aren't up in our head. I prefer not

to go to a Dr, and I have to be awfully sick to get there in the first

place. I have too many things to do to just let them herd me through

the medical system and pretend like I'm a hypocondriac (which

unfortunately they will try if given a chance). I'd love nothing

better than to meet a Dr who really listens and isn't afraid to go the

mile to help me feel better. Unfortunately, they just aren't on my

insurance so they give me no choice. :-)

I'm just waiting on my meds, and I take lots of breaks when I have

something that has to be done, and I enlist the help of hubby and son

when needed. At this point, that's the only way I can do it, but I

can't wait for the Armour to get here. I'm reading everything

everybody posts about how to start off cuz I'm just not ready to sit

down and pretend that all these symptoms are in my imagination. :-)

The best thing that there is much to learn and these groups help us to

learn and take those meds till we can make rational choices, which

when this first started, I couldn't do. :-)

When I went in to find out what was wrong with me.. the weight loss,

horrendous appetite.. etc.... I was called a hypochondriac.... In my

early thirties. Never spent a day in the hospital, No surgeries. OH, when

I was a kid I had a lot of tonsillitis and ear aches, I went in for

penicillin shots... but as an adult, I'd never gone it once for something

that was not an accident (I'm talking about cutting a finger down to the

bone, length-wise, severing the artery and spraying blood. Rolling a

truck in an ice storm and remodeling the inside of it with my skull.

Smashing my hand in a two-wheel cart and ending up in a hand brace for

six weeks while it healed) or for my annual exam...... Yet I was a

hypochondriac because I was concerned over a weight loss that was so

extreme that my new boss noticed it and ordered me new uniforms???? I'd

only been there a few months.... Uniforms are not cheap. I was barely

through my probationary period and he buys a whole new set of them?

That's losing a lot of weight FAST... but it was all in my head.....

Gosh... I wish I could slap him!
