Guest guest
The Office of Rural Community Affairs would like to inform everyone that the award recipient list for the 2003-2004 Federal Rural Access to Emergency Devices Grant Program (Rural AED Grant) is now posted on the ORCA website at www.orca.state.tx.us under NEWS ITEMS. HRSA awarded $11.6 million in grants to help rural communities buy automated external defibrillators, which have the ability to save the lives of people suffering heart attacks. ORCA received an award of $244,110 for the state of Texas. We received initially around 4,000 individual AED unit requests. At the time of the application deadline ORCA received 800 applications requesting just shy of 1800 AED units. The funding from HRSA provided funding for 122 AED's, with 71 of the awarded organizations receiving funding for CPR/AED training. All 122 AED awarded organizations were in eligible rural/frontier counties as well as some being in HRSA designated eligible zip codes in urban counties. Please visit the ORCA website for information on emergency services districts, as well as other rural programs and grants.
