All this talk of shoes fills me with dread..LOL..I cannot stand shoes...I've

always gone barefoot while in the house..I do wear shoes as long as I'm going

places and doing things but as soon as I get home, off they come...if my feet

get cold. I wear socks but only then.... I know that the medical advice is to

wear shoes..but when I wear shoes, my feet hurt...and when I wear socks, they

make my feet too warm and then my feet burn and tingle....I can't wear heavy

shoes at all. The ones I do wear are light weight canvas shoes and I put an arch

support insert in them.... so here I am still shoeless at home because wearing

shoes hurts...any suggestions?? I might add that this is now about the only time

my feet hurt since I've started taking the glucophage.

Also it's very hard to find socks I can wear because most have some sort of

woven top with elastic and that cuts off some circulation to my feet...I have a

couple of pairs of boot socks that my daughter bought me that don't have elastic

but they are certainly not soft and cushioney..any recomendations??

I for one am glad that there is a medication I can take that will help me

control this new problem I have...not too many decades ago, there was nothing

that could be done for anyone with a diagnosis of diabetes...I would bet even

then if we had known the correlation between diet and diabetes, a lot could have

lived a lot better life and maybe controlled it completely..with knowledge comes

power..I do not consider it a failing of mine if I need medication to maintain a

healthy balance...I just consider myself very lucky there is something that will

help....I know there are levels that can be controlled with diet and exercise

and if you can get it too that, more power to you..but my guess is that you

still have diabetes type 2, it's just that you don't need extra medication to

control it...

At the same time, none of us can argue with the fact that what and how much we

eat contributes to our health...for all of my life, i have been overweight(okay

fat) and I got away with it for a very long time...but now I have to face

facts..it is my fault I am overweight..I may have any number of emotional

reasons why I am fat..but the bottom line is I put more fuel into my body than I

used.... there is a definite correlation between being ocerweight(I hate that

word obese..grin) and in problems with heart, bloodpressure, and

diabetes....plus all those problems off burdens on back and hips and knees and

ankles...I can offer any excuse I may come up with but the solution is very

plain and it is clearly up to me whether I do somethig about it or not....it is

not my family's or friend's or doctor's duty to make sure I do what I am

supposed to do.

I got a lot of information from my session with my dietician....I did not get

insulted when she suggested that losing weight would help make everything

better...less load on my heart..probably a better balance with my cholesterol,

easier to keep a low blood pressure...all that in addition to maintaining a

healthy blood glucose level. She stressed very strongly that no matter how heavy

I was, the first 20 lbs. off would make the most drastic change and that the

changes would level off and be slower after that...

The dietician also worked with me to find foods that I could have when I only

shop once a month and have very little freezer space...now it is up to me to

work with what she taught me and I am working into it..it's not nearly as hard

as I had anticipated...I just have to have some kind of menu set up so I can

know I have enough to last....

I can't say enough about the benefits of a group like this...when we get weary

or discouraged or depressed, this is a place we can come to and let it all out

and know that others have been through the same thing. If you need information

or facts or advice, there's bound to be someone who has been there, done that

and will be willing to share . I know sometimes all one needs to do is tell

someone and the healing starts.....thanks everybody for just being....
