Hi Everyone,

Yesterday we were at the mall getting 's birthday pictures done and I saw so many adorable babies with Plagio, or Brachy or Tort or All Three that I wanted to cry. Now we were in Fort Worth so this is not a small area, but I couldn't believe how many plagio babies there were. I even saw one with Scaphy!!! There was one I really wanted to say something too, but didn't know how. This baby was 4 months old and the back of his poor head was as flat as a pancake. I tried to casually strike up a conversation, but was lightly brushed off. You could really tell this woman thought her crap didn't stink.

So my question is this: How do you approach someone whose child has obvious plagio/brachy/tort without offending them?? This would have been so much easier when was banded, many more people approached us about it and that would lead to "the" conversation. I mean do you know how many moms who think their child is "perfect" would want to punch my lights out just for telling them their kids head was crooked !!!!???? I know in the end it would at least get them thinking about it, but I have a real aversion to pain...LOL.

So how do I kepp educating those I see??? Anyone have any bright ideas?? I already leave 's Pamphlets everywhere especially in the changing stations of restrooms and in the baby aisles of stores., but what about those people I just run into??? Do I need a jacket that says "Plagio Police On Partol"...LOL

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATHRYN!!!!!!!

Hey

I know that everyone is different, but I'm a pretty blunt person. In

a case like you discribe I would probably aproach that person, and

very politely tell them that my daughter had plagio, and that is why

I'm here to tell them that they should have their baby looked at.

I did offend one of the Mom's at my playgroup. I just think that

even though they might be offended. Maybe they had in the back of

their minds what you just told them, and even though they don't want

to hear it. It will get them thinking. After that it is on them to

act, or not. That is all you can do. You will not be able to force

someone to do something they don't want to, but you can tell them.

Maybe have your card ready or so with some web info on it as well.

Good luck

Happy 1st Birthday !

What a brave soul you are on the crusade to get the word out. I think it would be very hard to approach someone you don't know and talk to them about their babies head shape. I wish someone in our family had pointed out 's flat head to us.

My husband thinks he is the Plagio police. He is commenting on babies head shape everywhere we go now (only to me of course!). He will say, boy does that baby have a nice round head or take a look a that one - major plagio! I know it's not funny but I think it helps us to joke around and also we feel good that we are doing something to improve 's head shape. When asked, I definitely give my spiel but I'm not brave enough to approach a stranger.

It will definitely be interesting to see how this back to sleep campaign and plagio treatment play out in the years to come.

Good Job!

I was going to post about this exact same thing! Last week one day, I

went to the mall during my lunch break (so Colin wasn't with me). I

saw about 3-4 children w/a form of plagio and 1 with scaphy (food

court was brewing w/plagio!). I don't think I could EVER say

anything, however, I am thinking of taking Colin to the mall some

time soon before he is done with treatment and see what happens

(probably nothing). I have been sort of chicken and haven't taken

him there at all but it has saved me tons of money staying away from

Banana Republic!!!

But back to the topic: it really surprised me how prevalent it is.

I wanted to immediately get a clip board and start asking people if

they wanted to be a volunteer in a study on plagio! Seriously, I

would LOVE to know how these children do without helmet therapy.

Obviously there isn't a web support grp for people-who-were-oblivious-

to-plagio and never pursued helmet therapy. We really don't know how

they will turn out. I am rambling but the bottom line is that it is

up to the parents to seek help if they think their child is in

need...maybe I'm a wuss but I could not say anything unless asked

about it.
