Guest guest
Ok, here's some thing I just copied from a website. NOTE it does not mention licorice! And it says to ask the doc about salt. And it says steroids when I thought those would not affect the test... I'll look some more. T " The amount of salt in the diet and medications, such as over-the-counter pain relievers of the non-steroid class (such as Motrin and Advil), diuretics (water pills), beta blockers, steroids, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, and oral contraceptives can affect the test results. Many of these drugs are used to treat high blood pressure. Your doctor will tell you if you should change the amount of sodium (salt) you ingest in your diet, your use of diuretics or other medications, or your exercise routine for aldosterone testing. Guest guest
From another website! " Many medications can influence aldosterone levels, including diuretics, lithium, calcium channel blockers, ACE inhibitors, propranolol, NSAIDs, and heparin. Guest guest
Sorry, I could not find any thing else about what not to take before aldosterone testing, on web searching, but I'm pretty sure there are some hormones you shouldn't take either. Perhaps try not to take any supplements / meds that you can safely eliminate for a few days prior? On the other hand, I did not change any thing I was taking, which included Prednisone, licorice, and I think DHEA, and in fact, I added major amounts of salt and my labs were still pretty darn low. Guest guest
Theda, Thanks for looking and for all the info you did provide! By the time I'd get the testing done, I would have probably forgotten to look the info up. Now it will stick in my mind. Liz Recent Activity a.. 7 . Guest guest
Is it reasonable for a doctor treating your thyroid/adrenals to order an aldosterone test, or is it " normal " for them to send you to an endo for this? Thanks, Olif

But if thye are already treating your adrenals I would think this would be a normal test for them to request. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
Val: " It depends on how much the doctor knows abotu adrenal function. But if thye are already treating your adrenals I would think this would be a normal test for them to request. " I went in there already self-treating the adrenals with HC. He also hasn't read Jefferies' book. I think he needs to " brush up " on his adrenal knowledge, and especially how they interact with the thyroid. He wasn't comfortable AT ALL when I requested an aldosterone test. When I requested that we look at aldosterone, he wanted to send me to an endo to look into 's. I have a saliva test from 6-8 weeks ago showing SOME adrenal function. Thanks, Olif
Guest guest
Well then it sounds as if you are getting out of his comfort zone and be prepared for him to send oyu to an endo if he feels inadequate to treat you. To give him credit he is trying! This is 100% more than most doctors do. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
