Hi Vicki.

Just out of idle curiosity, did you happen to mention to your doctor

that you spent the weekend herding runaway horses?

That might explain, just a bit, your feeling of tiredness...

I hope your friend does well.

Stay cool.

Mike.... ARE YOU KIDDING?.... lol

Yes, I did mention to him what had happened. Of course, as with many

people, his answer to the problem was to sell the horses. I had to ask

him if he were in my position with my disease, would he sell his KIDS?

Same, same!

If the sky is black and it's very cool to cold outside I have more

energy. Once that sun comes up... it's sucked out of me like letting

air out of a balloon.

My girls are just lucky they got out during the night time... if it was

during the day they would still be out...lol

I did forget to mention that on my way home my left kneecap got caught

so I couldn't straighten up my leg. Made it very hard to put in my

clutch.... It's been catching more and more....

Hi Vicki,

I don't envy the day you had. Going to the doctor is tough enough with

all those tests and blood drawings...exhausting, I know...and then to have

to see a good friend in pain, well, no wonder we get depressed, huh? Take

care, Vicki, and try to get some rest.

We here in central MA are in the midst of a horrible heat wave! Yesterday

was brutal, today will be the same, and tomorrow there are warnings that the

heat index will be around 115!!! I have to take my Mom to the clinic

tomorrow...cross your fingers that the AC works in my old van! My neck is

hurting, tendonitis in both elbows, chest discomfort, rashes

everywhere...Ugh! I think I'm ready for winter. Sigh.

Bye for now, Annette

Doctors Visit

Good Morning everyone....

Yesterday was my visit to the Rheumy. I was so exhausted by the time I

got there. I had to tell him what I had done and wasn't looking forward

to it. You see, when I received the Newsletter from the MAA, a doctor

had stated he didn't give his JO-1 patients Imuran because it causes flu

like symptoms. Exactly what I have been feeling. So, I stop the drug

about three weeks ago. After 4 days the flu like symptoms

stopped.....Thank GOD!

I told Dr. Paschel that I had stopped the drug and gave him the

reason.... He was ok with it and said to just leave it out and stick

with the Enbrel and Prednisone and that should be enough. Of course if

my labs start going up, we'll have to do something else. The all over

weakness, not just in the muscles, but inside my body is due to the

Jo-1. Nothing they can do about that at the moment. I couldn't hold

myself up and just wanted to lay on the table...almost falling asleep

several times. He was delighted to hear that my lung disease has not

progress any further. He did want me to see a psychiatrist to help me

with my mental depression. I told him if he could give me some energy I

wouldn't be depressed and everything would be fine. So, I have 6 weeks

to get out of this slump that I'm in before I'm off to see a psych. Oh

joy!!!!! Maybe he can give me some energy.

My Prednisone again was bumped up to 10mgs a day. He's left it up to me

as to how many days I'll do that and then start to reduce. So, I've

decided to start out with 9mgs.

I went for my lab work first before seeing my Rheumy. Then afterwards

he wanted three more tests run.... I had to go back to the lab and I got

the same gal. At first she thought she had done something wrong...

" Nope, just need more tests... " The bad part...for her not me, was that

she had to use the same hole as the first blood draw. She felt bad but

I couldn't feel a thing....

Next, I had to muster up the strength to go see a dear friend that was

in the hospital. She had her right Carotid Artery cleaned out.

She's my age and a very dear friend. Her daughter is like my own

daughter. In May she started having problems with her vision.. finally

losing her eye site on one side. They did an MRI and found several

spots on her brain and one large one on her brain stem. The doctor told

her they were benign tumors. Her symptoms continued and more of her eye

site was leaving and now the right eye was being affected. It wasn't

until a new doctor saw her last Wednesday, looked at the old MRI and

rushed her in to take a new MRI that he said she was having strokes.

They predicted that her right Carotid Artery was blocked by 70% and the

left was about 60%. While in there they found her right artery was

100% blocked. Yikes!!!!! They're going to wait two weeks and do the

other side which they now believe is more than 60%. I'm just so glad

it's over with and they know what it is she has.

Hope everyone else is having a great day.

Talk to you all later.

Take care,

Vicki

Hi Annette... Today I had to go to the dentist... it's a new place since

my insurance has changed. Not one thing that needed to be done was the

same charge that's in my booklet. I had to sit in there office for

almost 4 hrs. Bounced from one room to another. I'm not happy at all.

I'll have to call the insurance company tomorrow and find out what is

going on.

I'm so exhausted tonight. I'm also very ready for a chair but it looks

like I'll have to finish up on my teeth first before the chair. Is

there no end to the worry... no wonder I'm going crazy...lol

I saw on the news this morning where everyone is being hit with high

temps. Stay inside and sit in a bath tub. Two days ago a mother left

her two boys strapped into there car seat in the van, then went inside

to take a nap. 4 hrs later she realized what she did but it was too

late. Then yesterday a grandmother locked her 6 yr old grandson in the

car, windows up. A worker noticed he was screaming and soaking wet...

she was arrested. My point is.... what the heck is wrong with people?

Oh gosh, I shouldn't get on that subject. <grin>

I know with the heat I get a heat rash...does the heat bring out your DM

rash?

Hope you had a good day.

Take care,

Vicki

Hi All

Thought I would let you all know about my

latest doctor visit.

Went to the eye doctor today and my eyes

have gotten worse.....some kind of film or

something

covering eye.....has gotten much thicker

since my last year visit.....so they are going

to do laser surgery on both eyes on the 21st

...will be on outpatient basis and dr said it

was much faster & easier that the cataract

surgeryI had done a couple of years ago.

My first question was " will insurance pay

for it " ....dr said yes and then we sat and

cussed the insurance companies for awhile

.....lol

More next week after I see my rheumy..

Stay tuned for the next thrilling chapter!

Hi Teddi

Does the doctor think it's a new cataract forming? At least he's going

to take care of it fast. That will be nice for you. For a little fun

and excitement do you want to trade lives for a couple of days????

HMMMMM????

forehead pressed against machine they

they zap you with the lazer gun

Trade lives with you?....hmmmmmm no

Hi Vicki,

I know what you mean about dentist visits...I went to one in the next

town from me for about 4 years. I'm on MassHealth, so I don't pay much for

the visits if anything. Well, one day after the cleaning was done the

dentist's wife, who worked as his receptionist, charged me $25.00 for the

visit. I mentioned that I had never had to pay that much before and she was

so rude! She made a face at me and said, " Well, weren't you the lucky one! "

I went home crying. I'm very sensitive about being on Mass Health because I

worked for so many years but my earnings were reported under my ex-husband's

soc. sec. # so there is no record of my earnings on file for the last 18

years. I'm not eligible for regular s.s. disability. My own stupid mistake,

but who guesses that an illness will render you unemployable and that your

husband will want a divorce because you got sick?!

Yesterday I went to the endocrinologist for the thyroid. He took me an

hour and a half late, but was very nice, really. He aspirated the largest

nodule. I'll know in two weeks what the status of the sample is, but I'm not

worried because I know that 90% of these nodules are benign.

It's SO HOT here! I took three showers yesterday and I have AC! I have to

take my Mom to her clinic this morning, but plan to veg out in my recliner

and eat watermelon for the rest of the day.

Yes, I get rashes. Actually I have a rash almost all the time on my ankle

and stomach, but when I perspire it gets much worse...itching and burning

plus some weeping...I use cortisone cream and that seems to help somewhat.

Oh, well...things really aren't as bad as they seem to read here. Most

often I do quite well, so these uncomfortable times don't get me down for

long.

Let us know how you're doing, Vicki, and tell your " girls " to relax and

behave for you! Annette

Hi Annette.... I've got a question for you. Do you get any SSI????

It's my understanding that you could get part of your ex husbands SS if

you were married long enough. Did they check on that for you?

I'm pooped today....I called my dental insurance office and found out

that the dental office is charging the correct amount.... it's just that

they are using the very best material and doing the best

procedures...LOL which aren't covered in my insurance. In my

boat...WHO CARES .... the insurance company called them and the dental

office said to be cosmetically appealing this was the procedure to go

with.... Good grief...Welcome to Calif.!!!! So, I've asked for a second

opinion and going to a dentist tomorrow morning.... it's going to kill

me because I need more rest.

I use to be like you Annette...I would take the rudeness and cry all the

way home. Aaaah, but now I get the hairs on my neck standing up and I

dish it right back, at first in a very nice way to let them know they

have over stepped there bounds... If they persist on being rude then

I'll stand there and words roll off of my tongue so fast that I'm not

sure what I " m saying... it does stop them in there tracks... Rudeness

has become a way of life.. even the kids are very rude. This is how I

look at it.... the American public has allowed to let it go on because

we don't want to make a scene or upset the individual. I think if more

people would tell that individual that there actions are unacceptable

then people will think twice before doing it again.

Hope you're having a great day.

Take care

Vicki,

I also wonder what goes through these parents minds. I keep my windows down

when the car is in the garage and cracked in parking lots so my kids don't

even have to get into a hot car. Especially , only takes a few

minutes for to look really red in the face from the heat.

Well, the day finally arrived. started Kindergarten today. We met

yesterday with his teacher, nurse etc... and they were all wonderful.

asked me last night before he went to bed if I could come and get him if he

needed to come home. I didn't know what to say. I assured him that he

would be having so much fun with his friends that he would be fine. I don't

want him thinking he can come yhome when he gets a little fatigued and yet I

want him to know that I can be there in a minute if he really needs me.

Can't win with that one. I am feeling a little lost today. I gave myself

the week off. We own our own business and my office is in the house.

Allowed myself the luxury to wallow in self-pity for the whole day and then

will pull myuself up by the boot straps tomorrow.

Talk to everyone later,

Cari

Hi Vicki,

I do get SSI Individual Disability. I was told that I couldn't get my

ex-husband's SS until I was 65 years old. Is that right, do you think? We

were married for 18 years.

I know what you mean about the general rudeness in society. I used to be

more " mouthy " (after all, I taught some pretty rude seven-through tenth

graders) but as I got older I became more intimidated. Last week, though, I

was sitting on a bench outside a grocery store waiting for my mother to come

out when I saw two young boys (maybe 12 to 13) making terrible fun of a very

hard-working retarded man who works for the store collecting the grocery

carts in the parking lot. Well, I pointed at them and said, " That's not

nice. " They looked at me and one said, " We were just talking to him. " I

said, " I KNOW what you were doing, and if you don't just leave him alone to

do his work, I'll go in the store and find your mothers. " Well, they walked

very sheepishly back into the store, and I felt SO GOOD!!!!! I felt like I

was back in the classroom again. :-) Annette

Teddi,

My father had the laser surgery on both eyes two years ago and my

father-in-law had it this past Tuesday. Both big successes and my father

was amazed at the difference. My father-in-law has only had the surgery for

two days but already he said his vision is greatly improved. I am sure you

will have the same success.

Hugs,

Cari

Hi Cari.....

Although it's been a long time since I've had to worry about my

daughter... I do remember many times going to the grocery store and

having to take her out of her seat to go into the grocery store. Not

one time was she ever left in my car. Living in Las Vegas I can't

begin to tell you how many times we would hear of parents leaving there

kids lock in the car, in the sun, while they were inside gambling....

Some parents were never meant to be parents.

Oh noooooo, your baby is in school. Oh I bet your heart just broke.

Please let us know how he did. I'm sure he loved it once he got

started. Now you have all your kids in school.... What will you do

with that free time????....LOL

I talked to my daughter yesterday and she has her second one in school

four days a week now. That's how they do kindergarten in Aussy land.

The third one starts next year at two days a week, there pre-school.

While she said she needs the free time to run the shop they have, she

misses her girls being at home.

Sophie, my youngest grand daughter got on the phone to talk to me and I

said " Hi angel " ....LOL... she quickly said " I'm not angel, I'm

Sophie " ..... I could hear my daughter in the back ground laughing like

mad. They do grow up fast.

I do hope you enjoyed your rest today.

Take care,

Vicki

Hi Annette... I tried to look up the SSI age limit to collect on your

spouse's ... Not really sure, but I think it's 62. They don't make the

site easy to understand, at least not for me.

Good for you about the kids in the parking lot. Next time they will

think twice before doing it again...

It's cooling down now and I'm a happy camper....

Hope all of you are starting to get cooler temps....

Take care,

Vicki

had a good first day. Thank goodness. He did have a bloody nose and

had to go to the nurses office. I got the news through my middle child,

Karsyn, who's good friend saw sitting in the nurse's office

holding a kleenex to his nose. Nothing compares to a third grade gossip

line! LOL I had to ask about it and he said yes, he did have a

bloody nose but the nurse took care of it. He just takes everything in

stride. I expected at least a note in his backpack. I think it is a good

thing that they didn't call me as I would of wanted to go up there and that

may have upset or he would of wanted to come home with me and he was

having such a good day. We only live about 3 minutes from the school.

did fall asleep during rest time so I know he must of been whooped.

They have given him two padded mats to sleep on. He was still exhausted

when he got home and got crabby as the night wore on but all and all I think

the first day was a success. He told me tonight getting into bed that he

didn't want to go to school tomorrow because he got a headache there.

Everyone keep your fingers crossed for a smooth morning tomorrow.

My oldest daughter, Shelby, is 9 and often asks if she can stay in the car

while I run into a store. I would never leave her but I see it happening

all the time. I could never forgive myself if I left them and something

happened.

I haven't slept well the last few nights worrying about and school. I

also just like having the kids at home. It was hard to say good-bye to the

summer and let the girls go to. I had lunch with Jeff and I actually sat

and watch a sappy movie on Lifetime TV, from start to finish, without

interuptions. Kind of nice, I guess.

I know it must be so hard for you to be so far from your grandkids. They

sound precious. I loved the story you told on Sophie. That's priceless.

Hope you have a good Friday. Hope you are resting up some from your

exhausting day at the Dr's.

Hugs,

Cari

family with the laser surgery.....always helps

when you hear of people who were pleased

<<<Hi Annette... I tried to look up the SSI age limit to collect on your

spouse's ... Not really sure, but I think it's 62. They don't make the

site easy to understand, at least not for me. >>>

I don't know if the disability would make any

difference but I was able to start drawing SSI

at 62......of course it is less if you don't wait

until 65 but you would have to live to be

reallllllly old to make it pay to wait...IMHO

Thanks, Teddi... Vicki found the same info about the age of 62. I'm 59 now,

so not long to wait. Annette

Good morning everyone...

Teddi... No, I don't want to change with you but I'm sure you'd want to

change with me. Now what are you going to do? Is your PCP that you

like still on the insurance you have? If so, just go to him until

something else breaks. Did you keep the doctors name that I sent

you.... the one I asked if he was your doctor... he's suppose to be very

experienced with myositis.

Vicki.....don't know....don't know....no <snicker>

Haven't gotten my letter yet..PCP wouldn't

tell my friend re insurance and please send

the name of the myositis dr again.

Question: I checked MDA about clinics and

find they have one at Childrens Hospital here

in OKC.....wonder if I could get any help there.

they list DM & PM on their disease list

We got a little thunder last night but no rain

here......they got a little on the other side of

the city......oh well, we are having our cold

snap today and it's not suppose to get over

98 (yeah, right!)
