A Christmas Story

We had a pretty good day today. We did have an administrative meeting to make

plans to finalize the take down of our old center, and to clean up the loose

ends at the new one. We also figured out how to route the audio from a local FM

station that is broadcasting only Christmas music through our in-house video

system, so you can tune the TVs in the center to listen to the carols. There was

the usual overabundance of food. We had one sad call. Some dirtbag stole all the

Christmas presents for a four year old girl, and a hasty collection was taken up

in the center for their replacement. I was extremely proud of our folks this

year, because we took care of a number of families. The most humorous event of

the day came when I was let in on what my merry pranksters pulled on a poor

unsuspecting police cadet. During the day you can drive into our parking lot. At

night, the gate to the street is closed, and we can buzz you in if you are

authorized. He came by the other evening, and couldn't figure out how to get in.

Our ladies convinced him that we had a voice operated gate, and he needed to get

real close to the speaker and say " 9-9-9-9 " and the gate would then open. Well,

he did, and it did - but only becuase they pushed the button to open it. "

Eventually they let him in on the joke, but they had him believing it for a

while. Ahh...the innocence of youth.

Well, it's 12:01 AM. Christmas is here on the East Coast. Have a terrific one!
