Guest guest
After 1 week, my son's helmet is extremely smelly. He does sweat a lot, but . . . ugh!! While he takes his bath, my husband cleans (or should I say scrubs) the helmet with cotton balls and rubbing alcohol. Is there anything else that I can do? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Molly Yi Mom to Austin, STARband since 5/3/
Guest guest
Hi Molly- We use 's baby shampoo every other day. Make sure all the soap is out of it and it is fully dry before putting the helmet back on. We usually put the helmet outside to dry. This process works for us, but it still will get stinky! Guest guest
CT recommended letting the bands air out in the sunlight. Dara > After 1 week, my son's helmet is extremely smelly. Guest guest
Jenn: Try drying the helmet in the sun. For some reason that helps. Our helmet this time around is especially stinky but it has also been hot this time around. Try taking it off during the day periodically drying it out and wiping his head down. Sleeping -- we haven't had an issue with that. But it can take a little bit of time. --- fortjenn <fortjenn@...> wrote: > I didn't expect it to be smelly already! Guest guest
Totally normal. I think ours was stinky after three but the smell seems to fade off a little the more they wear it. Or maybe we just got used to the smell. Our orthotist said another one of her moms uses 90% alcohol to clean it and to also try scrubbing the inside with a light brush. Normal rubbing alcohol is 70%. I also have noticed that letting it sit in sunlight helps the smell and the yellowing that comes from long term wear. Jack (one) > I didn't expect it to be smelly already! Guest guest
Hello and welcome to the smelly band club. My daughters Starband did the same thing after a few days. We have used the stronger alcohol with light rubbing and it has worked. I also started to wash her head with gerbers giggles shampoo and it smells great. The last thing I do is I take the baby hair brush while I am washing her head and rub light circles in the soap. I think it helps get rid of the dead moist skin better. Not to mention she loves how it feels. As for sleeping it sounds like your little one is still hot at night. We also went through that. I though putting the air down to 75 -76 and dressing her in a onies was enough but she would still wake up. We started also putting the ceiling fan on her and it worked. Her little legs are chilly when I check on her at night but she is sleeping well now. Once in awhile she will roll herself into the corner and can't get out and I will have to move her. But it isn't every night. Good luck I hope your little one gets a full night a sleep soon. Guest guest
I'm surprised Hannah's band isn;t stinky yet. She got her's the day after your son got his. I wipe it out at night with a paper towel drenched in rubbing alcohol, lol. I also give her a bath every night and wash her hair really good. As far as sleeping in it, she has no problems at all. Though, I've never really had any problems with her sleeping at night or nap time. At nights, I just take her band off around 7, clean it and let it sit in the kitchen till about 7:30 when we go upstairs for bathtime, and I take the helmet up with me, give her a bath, then go back to my room, put a diaper on her and put her helmet back on, then it's off to bed. I just lay her down with her bottle, and within minutes, she is sound asleep. I just wish the other two were that easy, lol! Jill
Guest guest
Jenn, You can use a washcloth with alcohol on it to scrub the band or a soft toothbrush. You should also try cleaning it with alcohol and then setting it in direct sun to dry, This works great. Be sure to allow it to dry thoroughly and be sure his head is dry too. I use the presoaped disposable wash cloths to clean Dominick's head and they work great and smell wonderful. CAROLG > I didn't expect it to be smelly already!
