Hello...I'm new to the group. My 10 yr old was just diagnosed as

diabetic 5 days ago. We just got home from the hospital yesterday.

Whew...good to be home. Little background-Karly is 10, has

Myasthenia Gravis(ocular) and the neurologist sent her in for routine

bloodwork because of the thirst, going to the bathroom, and

headaches. She is on a low dose of prednisone, soon to be weaned

off. Her blood sugar was over 500 and we were told to go to the

doctor or er asap. At the dr's office her sugar was over 850.

So..we were sent to Riley Hospital and she was diagnosed. Tests

confirm she has been high longer than she has been on the prednisone,

so they are not thinking it's just the steroids.

So, we are home now trudging through this confusion. :) She is

coping pretty well. She is on insulin 3x's a day and metformin

2x's. It's been different having to check every single label and

she's doesn't like having me watch what she's eating. Eventually she

will be able to do a lot of this on her own, but until then... She's

does not want to give herself shots, but that will come with time

too.

I do have one question though..Anyone out there know a good program

that will convert any recipe and break it down into carbs, etc. for

me?? That would be a great tool for me to use.

Thank you for allowing me to join this group and sorry I was a bit

long winded!! :)
