Guest guest
The ferritin issue is something that they are really just starting to look at from what I have seen. Re: Iron and Hypothyroid Want to add that my B12 and Folate are fine! I only found out about the low ferritin when I asked for copies of my bloods from my useless Endo. These bloods were taken in beginning Feb...I got them on 24th March, and then on 8th April a letter arrived from him saying that my Ferritin was low and I needed to start Iron supplementation...too late...I already had!!!! However what is more puzzling is that I have been seeing a haematologist over the same period as I have had bleeding issues (after surgery and endoscope), and also easy bruisability. I was dismissed by him as a perfectly healthy woman with perfect blood!!!!!! (WHAT...with a ferritin of 5.3???????) It's obviously not endos alone who are useless. Needless to say the Haematologist is about to get a pointed letter from me! Guest guest
Is there an iron supplement that doesn't tear up your stomach and constipate? I feel like I'm taking so many vitamins, herbs and hormones I would rattle if you shake me...but I've steered clear of iron due to having Major major problems with it. I couldn't take prenates when I was pregnant due to the high iron...it would hurt my stomach so I would literally end up in the hospital. Any suggestions? with kind regards, Jenni Proud Air Force Mom! May God guide and protect our troops! LOW!!!!!! I am taking Iron Bisglycinate to boost the levels as of last week! Guest guest
I find Solgar's Gentle Iron doesn't affect my stomach and doesn't make me constipated Lynda Re: Re: Iron and Hypothyroid Is there an iron supplement that doesn't tear up your stomach and constipate? Guest guest
Do you take them with food.. the iron supps, I mean? The best source that I've ever found to kill my cravings when it comes to severe iron deficiencies (I know, that sounds weird... but it was a thing my mom showed me.... when I craved things like liver and brussels sprouts and we went in to the doc my hemoglobin numbers would always be lousy, she would say that it meant that my iron was low). Now that I'm on iron supps I've not been craving liver or brussels sprouts at all.. so I think what she was telling me was valid...... but.. before you cringe and the thought of liver and onions.. there are a lot of other ways of preparing it that is far far tastier.... If you want to give me a shout off list we can banter recipes.... Another thought would be to break up the iron supp dosages so that they are smaller and less invasive to your system... it could be the it's a sensitivity due to the amount and nothing in the tummy the can buffer.... ..... anyone else have any thoughts? Topper () PS I used to do liver by the pound, when I could afford it.. the last three times that I was able to buy it I was able to make 6 to 7 mini meal portions out of it and eat it over three days... I don't feel the need to gorge on it anymore..... On Sat, 17 Apr 2004 11:52:24 -0500 " The Good Book " writes: > Is there an iron supplement that doesn't tear up your stomach and > constipate? Guest guest
Someone, I think Janie, said you need magnesium along with the iron to prevent that. Blessings, Debbie K. Guest guest
yes he should have Re: Iron and Hypothyroid .Can you give me references for this. my Hb was up at 17 last April...by August was 10.4, and December 11.3...My Ferritin in Feb was 5.3......shouldn't the hematologist I saw in january have noticed that something was wrong!!! I'd like to show him the refs for the Hb rise before the Ferritin fall. Thanks Fluffy > > Another thing I learned is that the ferritin level is the first thing to drop with iron poor > anemia. With my last labs, my hemoglobin was 15.6 (11.5-15.5 for women), up from > 15.3 in January. (The 15.6 was despite 3 really heavy periods from Jan-March.) > Almost unheard of really.
