Guest guest
Ok, I took my temp this morning before I got up. I did it orally for 3 mins and it was 97.2. I used a mercury thermometer. I sleep in a heated water bed set on about 85 degrees. What does everyone think? I haven't been diagnosed with anything yet but will be getting the necessary tests soon I hope. I guess I'm still trying to convince myself that my symptoms could be from being hypo. I often feel like I just looking for an excuse for being lazy and nuts! Shelli Re: Hypo? Basal Temperature Basal Temperature Test This is a test of your core temperature taken in the morning before you get up and start moving. The muscle movements will warm you up, so it is important to do this before getting up. Have a bulb-type thermometer at your bedside (the electronic type don't work for this test). Have it shaken down before hand. Wake up 10 minutes earlier than usual and place the bulb of the thermometer in your armpit. Keep it there for the full 10 minutes. Record the reading. Do this for a number of mornings to note the trend. (Bad readings are common with a mis-position of the bulb.) We are looking for a number from 97.8 to 98.2 degrees F. Below this indicates a deficiency syndrome: Blood Deficiency Hypoadrenal Hypothyroid <http://www.wholehealthclinic.com/dis/basal_temperature_test.htm> I hope this helps. Guest guest
I'd say it is low but not very low. Mine is 96.2 Lynda (in the UK) Re: Hypo? Find a doc who will put you on Armour, NOT Synthroid or Levoxyl. And after he puts you on Armour, don't stay on the intial dose longer than 3 weeks or your hypo symptoms will return with a vengeance. You will need to begin raising at that point......and over time, allow yourself enough Armour to rid you of symptoms, NO MATTER how low it gets your TSH. Janie aka ThyroDiva p.s. My morning basal temp with a mercury thermometer is 98.4 and higher...and that's while on an optimal dose of Armour of 3 grains..

Guest guest
My basal, with a Mercury thermometer, under my tongue is between 98.2 and 98.4.... I stay pretty steady through the day... with a slight fever when I had a mild earache.. that went a way in just a day to a day and a half.. I don't remember now... the point is that my body was able to build up a fever to burn out whatever had gotten into my ear... I consider that pretty darn good... taking into consideration that I wasn't able to get a fever for all the years that I was undermedicated on T4 only.... Guest guest
Thanks Jane. I will try to remember to keep checking it for a week and we'll see what happens. I've read that women who are still menstruating should take the temp during the 2nd, 3rd and 4th days or their periods. I forgot to so today when I took it is a week after starting my last period. It should get a little higher around ovulation, right? Shelli Dear Shelli, This sounds very low.. no .. it IS very low.. Guest guest
Thanks Janie. I am going to get the tests through HealthcheckUSA and go from there. My gyn only tested TSH and FT4. I mentioned awhile back that he said that testing FT3 is outdated. If I find out I need meds I will either self medicate or see about a doc that PattiSue told me about. The problem with this doc is that he's about 2 1/2 hours away from me and I'm chicken to drive in the traffic that I would have to go through to get there. Shelli Re: Hypo? Guest guest
Dear Shelli, well that sounds about right. I don't know if its an urban legend spread by a panty liner advert on telly or not.. but . if you avoid those days then you will have a pretty good assessment of what is really going on, unclouded by any doubts.
