Dear Lynda,

I am no expert so please do your due dilligence .. but some suggestions

unless you or anybody has

l. maybe add some Adreno-lyph.. to support the adrenals

2. maybe add some pit-lyph to assist the anterior pituitary to produce more

TSH??

3. could you go up slightly on the cortef?.. I believe what you are on

equates to about 7mg of prednisolone.. Dr. Peatfield says you can go to 10mg

and still be at physiological level?

4. could you borrow some more Armour.. from somewhere?

Did you feel better before... if so for how long.. is this crash just all of

a sudden...?

Does anybody else have any ideas or experience.?

Jane .

Sure sounds like you are simply undermedicated as far as thyroid.

Can you order more ASAP? Also, remind me: how is your Ferritin? If

I've asked this before, forgive me--it's hard for me to keep up with

everyone!! LOL.

I also forgot to add---until you can raise that Armour, make sure

you are taking plenty of selenium, vit. C and zinc to assist with T4-

-to T3 conversion.

Hi Jane,

thanks, I will try an increase of cortef and see how that goes.

It is strange but I seem to crash every 2 weeks and yet my routine and diet do

not change. I have kept a diary and there is nothing that would indicate a

change or why I am crashing like this.

I think the reason why I get so despondent when this happens is because every

time I increase my armour I start feeling good for a few days so then I start to

think that I am beating this damned thing....then it comes back and bites me

again!

Hi Janie,

I haven't had my ferritin tested lately but in the past it has alwys been low.

I am taking 25mg iron bisglyconate (Solgar Gentle Iron), maybe I should increase

it to 50mg, although 25mg is the recommended dose.

I also take selenium, vit c, zinc, calcium, magnesium

Dear Lynda,

I just would like to correct something I said about the cortef... actually

20mg of this equates to 5 mg. prednisolone.. (you divide by 4)

This is not very much.. at all.. I got no relief of my symptoms of stress

and anxiety until I reached 7.5 mg. and this small change made all the

difference..

I have now gone up to 2.5 Armour and am improving all the time...

Do you have any test results for DHEA?? if its low then you can start

taking this Nutri west in the states sell sublingual DHEA very cheap, also

pregnenolone.

my basal temp this morning was only 97F... but heres the thing.... my feet

were warm for the first time in living memory...

In true healing... the body heals what it deems to be important.. and in my

case it was saying 'look sweety.. the feet are more important than your arm

pits... give me a break.. I can't do it all in one week!!'.... so I accept

that it will take time.

Dear Lynda,

I was thinking today, about what you said ..re crashing... I have only

recently been seeing evidence that the thryoid is 'kicking in' again... its

been kind of wobbly on days.... some good like yesterday.. and the day

before.... and now today... I feel like death warmed up....

So I have decided that I will review how I see this.. I can see it as

(a)... oh Infamy... oh Infamy.... they've all got it in-fa-me... shock

horror .. this is never going to work.. I am never going to get better...

life is unfair.. blah.. where are the worms... I want to eat worms now!!

or

(B).. what a bummer.. a crap day.... well I had two good days in a row

before.... two days like I have not had in months.... this is a sign... that

the thyroid and adrenals are spluttering into life... they too have been

abandoned and neglected... but still they managed to do the odd days work...

so this proves that they are not b***erd beyond all recognition... this is a

good sign... I will not panic... I will tailor my day accordingly and not

flog the little Devils for taking it easy.. I will not panic... I will go

back to the books and read more..

I made a temperature chart which I can see at a glance the entire week...

what I can see is that it is very very slowly increasing from 96.8.. to 97.2

.... so .. its not perfect but its in the right direction... despite the

lack of temperature under the pits... the feet are warm.. so that is

another good thing... I have decided I have been sick for over 12 years...

it will not happen any time soon.... but if I do the right things in the

right order it will get better... my good days have given me a glimpse..

and a promise of better days to come...

Today.. I am being Zen... it is what it is......., getting wound up will

make my adrenals worse... so I choose not to make my adrenals worse... I am

now going to bake a cake... and because I am being kind to myself I will not

eat the whole thing in one sitting.... I will take my vitamin supplements

with my cake... .

..1. life is a compromise..

2. humour helps....

3. Cake tastes better than worms

Hi Jane

thanks for making me laugh <g> Feeling a bit better today. When I am feeling

tearful though, it really isn't a case of feeling sorry for myself. It's more

like a hormonal reaction. I have just gone through menopause and I don't think

my hormonal balance is right yet.

About what you said this morning re raising dosage of cortef - I have found that

if I take any after lunchtime I can't sleep at night, so I have been taking all

20mg between getting up and lunchtime. So, according to what you said 7.5mg

pred would equal 30mg cortef. Do you think it would be ok to take all that in

the morning (spread out of course)?

Thanks for all your help

Dear Lynda,

I don't know is the straight answer... perhaps someone who is also on the

cortef would care to comment on this..

When you say you are having menopausal symptoms are you taking something in

the way of natural HRT for this....

for instance

DHEA, natural progesterone oil sublingual drops, pregnenolone, .. all these

would help the distressing symptoms .. I know nothing is 'self indulgent'..

when it comes to feeling stressed, anxious, tearful, these are physiological

based, and can and should be treated, after all we have other things at

stake here ... like bone densitiy for a start.....

have you had these hormones checked.. there are several companies who will

do this without any ordering from a Dr. or health care professional

Individual Wellbeing Diagnostic Labs

0 do a range of saliva tests, progesterone, DHEA... this is the

lab I am using for my auntie..

if you test these hormones you will then have a better idea where you can

effectively supplement, Hormones like Pregnenolone, progesterone

and DHEA are converted into

other hormones as needed by the body.. they can be taken as sublingual

tablets or in transdermal creams.. are available over the internet..

Do you know your DHEA levels if they are low??... you really should

be addressing this ... immune, energy, wellbeing... etc. very important.

supports the adrenals too. I read somewhere that HIV doesn't turn into

Aids until DHEA levels drop too low, and women who develop breast

cancer ususally have very low levels also... ..

DHEA does good things for the libido... .. but today its. cake ...

Nutri West do a very good assortment of products... and transdermal

creams can be got from Serentity, or any number of places... College

Pharmacy

is a compounding chemist and they will do a transdermal preparation complete

with progesterone, estrogen and DHEA.. just talk to the pharmacist about

your

symptoms and they will put together a formulation.. then a month later you

call

them again and they will adjust it according to what is still bugging you...

hot flashes

....etc. there are lots of options and again... its treatable... and thats

great..

to know that you can get some kind of relief.. without having to risk cancer

as a

trade off. (no prescription is needed for this if the formulation does not

contain

testsosterone ... they do make a charge for their in house Dr. to approve

the

prescription.. about $50.. this lasts for unlimited prescriptions for about

6month

I think).. if you have a hormone test available you can fax it to the

pharmacist

just let her know its coming and she will be able to make an even better

assessment of what would suit you. They also do sublingual tablets too.

Well my alternative to prozac has just come out of the oven... I have heard

that cold sponge cake can turn poisonous if left at room temeperature...

my drug of choice is calling me....................... aarrrggghh ... auuhh

Hi Jane,

I am using natural progesterone cream, that is what seems to suit me best at the

moment. I tried dhea about a year ago but it made my ankles swell,

pregnenalone didn't seem to do anything but that was before menopause so maybe I

should try it again.

I had hormonal imbalances during puberty and during and after both pregnancies,

so I didn't expect menopause would be much different. In my thirties a gynae

tested my female hormones, told me that I was extremely high in estrogen and

predicted that I wouldn't go through menopause until I was 55 - he was wrong, I

am 56!

I am estrogen dominant, the progesterone helps to balance that but I having to

use more and more of it. The place that you advised for testing hormones - I

presume that is in London? And College Pharmacy is in the US? Will they

supply to the UK? Sorry for all the questions.....

btw my prozac of choice is dark chocolate mmmmm

Dear Lynda,

The Individual wellbeing diag. labs is uk tel 0 you can ask them

to send you info on all the tests they do. the DHEA test is £50

www.collegepharmacy.com is in the us.. they will send to UK

There is another website called www.meworkshop.com/ they have a kind of

consultancy thing .. nutrition etc. and also will order tests.. I think the

test they use is very comprehensive.. rumour mill has it .. cortisol,

insulin, DHEA, DHEA sulphate, Secretory IGA, 17 Alpha hydroxy.. etc.

heres a tip for the chocolate.. store it on a really high shelf... little

known fact.. calories are affraid of heights.. they will jump out to save

themselves... then all you have left is the good stuff...

Another form of DHEA (if you are found to be deficient) is 7 keto DHEA which

has less of the troublesome side effects that a lot of women complain

about... starting at a low dose and gradually working up is a good idea as

well.

I definitely think you need an up to date hormone profile so you can get

some stability back... by supplementing exactly where you need it..

Hi Lynda,

As you've probably been told already, this happens when you need

more Armour. I've been going through the ups and downs over the

last year and you just have to keep increasing your Armour until you

don't have any more " downs " ! I'm upto 3 1/4 grains right now. Last

year when I started on Armour, I was on only 1 grain. So, I'd just

keep gradually increasing. Good luck!

Lynda,

I know what those tears are like. It may help to see them as 90% hormones.

Perhaps

a little frustration mixed in, too. With myself, I'm finding that I actually

feel much

better after I cry -- sometimes dramatically so! I've come to the conclusion

that there

must be an excess of some kind of hormone (not sure which one yet) in my system

and that the crying is a way of flushing it out. My eyes and upper face used to

swell

terribly after I would cry. Sometimes had trouble seeing because the eyelids

were so

swollen! This doesn't happen anymore. Don't know if it's the Armour or the

healing

adrenals. Probably a mixture of both. But in the mean time, I don't fear those

tears

anymore and actually am grateful that they come when they do. Then I know I

will

feel better emotionally and physically.

So, let them roll!

when I got to the bottom.. realised I had sent it... do you think memory is

helped by this therapy...?? the good thing is that you can tell me the same

Jane,

Oh yes! Memory is definitely helped. I've gone from not remembering stuff from

literally one second or two to the next to actually remembering what I did

yesterday --- and more of course. It definitely gets better!

Dear Janet,

That indeed is good news, my memory is absolutely shocking.. I get up from

the sofa to get something I cannot live one second without.. its that

important .... and then by the time I am fully standing... its gone.. I

imagine if I ever got a brain scan it would look like a piece of swiss

cheese... but with less of the cheesy bits.

yes indeed this is something to look forward to.
