Green smoothies are wonderful, but if you depend on smoothie mixes,

you'll get nothing but SCD illegal junk! (Note: SCD is a gluten free

diet, but a gluten free diet is not necessarily SCD!)

I make them!

If you're new to SCD, I recommend cooked and peeled vegetables. Take a

couple cups and whiz them up in a blender with some homemade beef or

chicken broth, and whatever seasonings you can handle or fancy, maybe add

a hard boiled egg or a few ounces of cooked chicken or beef and whiz

completely smooth. Pour into a tall glass and drink. I've done mine cold,

and I've heated them and had them as soup.

If you don't have any broth handy, you can use, if tolerated, legal

tomato juice or even water. You can also throw in (or stir in after

pouring) a few dollops of SCD yogurt.

YUM!

I make smoothies with spinach but not kale. Before SCD, I would make a V8 type smoothie with tomato, cucumber, garlic, carrot, bellpepper, and a little salt.

I've been hearing alot about the benefits of green smoothies and how much more energy it gives people. I could use some more energy!! But I noticed that alot of the powdered green smoothie mixes have things like barley grass. I have celiac, so does that make foods such as wheat grass and barley grass not compatible with being gluten free? What about green smoothies made from fresh kale and spinach? Are these okay? Does anybody drink these? How have you handled it? I do have a bit of a problem with salad--I don't appear to completely digest it all--is that normal?Okay, just wanted to hear from you all and learn about this a little more.Blessings,Betty

I also drink at least one smoothie a day with about 3 cups of spinach, a fist

full of

strawberries, yogurt and 1/2 a banana (very ripe). Occasionally I add other

veggies, like

avocado, carrots and zucchini. My body really seems to like these smoothies.

I have tried with kale or broccoli...my body might like them, but my tastebuds

sure don't!

with the spinach, you just get a tiny earthy flavor. I have come to crave it

and cannot

drink a smoothie with just fruit and yogurt now.

I don't digest salad very well, either. In fact, I cannot eat peppers or

tomatoes with skins.

I try every 2 months or so to eat a small salad, but I am not ready for it yet.

Blending the

veggies in my smoothie helps me get my 5-8+ servings of fruits and veggies each

day

without causing me any discomfort. i have a VitaMix, so even seeds are

completely

pulverized and don't bother me. If you do try htis, add your yogurt afterwards

on very low

speed, otherwise I think it harms the good bugs.

try it, you might like it!
