We were quoted $1700 per aid for the Claro, the same as for the Prisma (the quote for the Prisma was the suggested retail price from Siemens - the actual price from the dispenser was $1400 per aid). Are you sure that was a quote per pair? ------ Yeah, I know - I asked her again to be sure and that's what she quoted. I was really surprised also. Be interesting to see how it works for Tommy vs. the Prisma. He's had Siemans Music hearing aids (programmable but not digital) for the last three years. They've worked well for him and have been extremely reliable also. Of course we'll see what it really costs when we get to the point of paying! I'll keep you posted. And what's the level of your child's loss? My older son has a severe loss. >> Hi Barbara, We live in Rochester, NY. Both of my children have a moderate/severe " cookie bite " loss. That is, they have a mild loss from 0 -1000 hz, which then slopes steeply downward to moderate/severe from 1500 - 4000 hz, then slopes back upward to a moderate loss from 4000 hz on. The reason that we went with power aids was because this type of cookie bite loss is quite frequently progressive - so, if the loss gets worse, the new aids will still be powerful enough. We didn't want to go with the " non-power " version, and then have to purchase new aids if their loss progressed. So far their hearing has been stable for the last 5 years. My children are Jake, 9.5 years old in 4th grade, and age 7 in 2nd grade. Hope everything works out with your son's new aids! Martha
