I have seen knee films cited in literature as an alternative location for bone age determination, especially in infants. It is just another way to arrive at a bone age reading. Dr. Wollmann indicated in his talk that bone age ultimately doesn't yield much info about final height predictions. While bone age is delayed for the first years in an RSS patient, it rapidly catches chronological age shortly before puberty.
