bone age (and knee x-ray)

Meribeth,

had both a hand and a knee x-ray taken for bone age when she was

about 18 months. I have seen knee films cited in literature as an

alternative location for bone age determination, especially in infants. It

is just another way to arrive at a bone age reading.

Dr. Wollmann indicated in his talk that bone age ultimately doesn't yield

much info about final height predictions. While bone age is delayed for the

first years in an RSS patient, it rapidly catches chronological age shortly

before puberty. That means it is not helpful in predicting the length of

time the child has for catch-up growth.
