Guest guest
I'm a new mom of 4 month old twin girls (they are my first & only children). One of my twins was diagnosed with Torticollis. I'm in the process of scheduling an appointment with a phsyical therapist. I would just like some advice. I start to get scared at times and I don't want to be scared. Torticollis can be cured, right? Thanks so much for your support and advice!!
Guest guest
-Hi and welcome to the group. My daughter wasn't diagnosed with tort but she did have a noticable tilt. Torticollis can definitely be cured. You are taking the right steps but scheduling an appointment with a physical therapist. I have heard others mention EI(early intervention). From what i have heard they will actually come to your house if your child qualifies. There is also a group for tort that you may want to join also. I am sure others will chime in. Guest guest
Howdy new mom! I believe there is also a Support Group for Torticollis, you may want to check it out. But you will recieve lots of advice here from all these wonderful members, because plagiocephaly and torticollis seem to go hand in hand. My son Jaden has mild tort and we are currently doing physical therapy every day at home, and he is seen once a week for therapy and evaluation. He has improved so much w/in the past few weeks. So YES, it IS treatable, and you should definately be seeing some improvement once you start PT w/ your baby. Keep in mild it may take some time, depending on the severity. But things DO get better! You made the right step by scheduling that appt. The sooner the better. ~Amy, mommy to Jaden MN, plagio/mild tort, started CranioCap 4/23/04 --- In Plagiocephaly , " mame122603 " <mame122603@y...> wrote: > I'm a new mom of 4 month old twin girls (they are my first & only > children). Guest guest
Hello- my daughter is 10 months and told she had a slight tilt and plagiocephaly. She is delayed (not crawling, pulling up) in physical development, is this all related? I have an appt. with physical therapy and cranial specialist, should I be doing anything else? Guest guest
-It can all be related. Jenna had a tilt. She didn't walk until 14 months but she has definitley caught up with other kids her age. I think having those 2 appointments is a great start. Jenna wasn't referred to physical therapy but we did things at home. We encouraged her to look the other direction. My other 2 kids would get her to look the other way. I know it seems scarey now but it does get better. Hang in there and please keep us posted on your daughter. Guest guest
Hey there and welcome to the group! As Amy stated, there is a group here in for torticollis and you may want to join us there as well. And, as also stated by others, it is definately able to be cured. It can be a long road with a few bumps in it, but eventually it will smooth out. Though many babies w/tort hate tummy time, it's definately a good idea to get her on her belly as much as possible. Repo'ing is a good idea as well, to help ward off plagio. Great that you're getting her into pt, just make sure this PT has worked with other little ones with tort. Trust your instinct, if you don't like him/her, switch. You'll be fine and your daughter will recover great. Keep your chin up and post with any questions!! Guest guest
Welcome to the group and congrats on your girls! We have many babies here who had torticollis, though my daughter did not, so I can't be too much of a help in that area! I do know there is a torticollis group as well though. That's great that you have the physical therapist appt scheduled. The link between the tort and plagio is that many babies w/tort also have/develop plagiocephaly. If your daughter is always looking to the right for instance, she risks getting head flatening on that side. How do you think her head shape is now? Sometimes it is easier to see in a mirror. We have severity assessments in our links section. It will be difficult w/the tort, but you want to try to keep her off that side if she does have any flattening. Please tell us more when you get a chance and I'm srue we can help you out more. , mom to Hannah, DOCband #3 3/30 Cape Cod, Ma --- In Plagiocephaly , " mame122603 " <mame122603@y...> wrote: > I'm a new mom of 4 month old twin girls (they are my first & only > children). Guest guest
Hi. My 5-month old was diagnosed with torticollis last month and he's already shown so much improvement with our weekly physical therapy appointments (cranial sacral massage) and at-home stretching exercises. There's a website called www.torticolliskids.org that you should checkout to find more information to put your mind at ease. But, yes, from what little I know, it's very curable with treatment. Guest guest
Hello and welcome to the group. My name is Sandy and my daughter's name is Willow. She was dx'd at her 8wk visit. We were referred out for pt / ot, but they just told us to rotate her in the crib, and place the toys on the other side. Oh and lots of tummytime. I can tell you that it was not that easy, but that Willow's torticollis is completely resolved now at 11months. We are still in pt and ot though. Tort kids should be monitored till they walk well. With looots of home stretching / PT / OT and a great support group we got through it. It is a loooong trip, but you will get there. Have you contacted Early Intervention yet? Your daughter might qualify for this. That would mean that they come out to your house and do the therapy with her. Depending on which state you are in the eligebility standards are different. Please feel free to ask any questions. Also you might want to peak your head into the torticollis group on here.. They are great and I don't know where my daughter would be without them.
