Hi ,

I've been away, but am wondering how you made out with Cole's

appointment last week. Too many posts to sort through :).

Hi ,

Welcome back. How was vacation? Our appointment last week went ok,

although Dr. Schnitt didn't really offer much of an opinion or

anything. He basically walked in, wrote a Rx for both DOC and

STARband, and walked out. So we have been driving ourselves nuts for

the last week trying to decide on which band to use.The DOC band and

the Cranial Tech staff are excellent, no doubt. Everyone I ever

spoke to there was great. I had my mind totally made up to go with

the DOC band until we found out that insurance would cover the

STARband at 100%, and that we would have to pay $1600.00 for the

DOC. After we found that out I started doing a more research on the

STARband. I was referred to a orthotist in Orlando, which is 3 hours

closer than the Miami CT we would have to use. I called him and

asked at least a million questions, and got some more referrals. We

actually met with him today, and he was great. Both my hubby and I

really thought he knew what he was talking about, and both felt like

he would do a excellent job. We actually decided to go ahead and

have Cole Scanned today. (The scanner was GREAT!!)We should

get Cole's band in about 2 weeks, maybe less, because the ortho is

right by where they actually make the band. He said he picks all of

his up himself, and that he would get it as soon as it's ready. I am

still kinda worried about going STARband rather than DOC, but I am

going to give it a try. If we are not completly happy with it after

a month or two then we will come up with the money to get the DOC

band. Anyway that about sums up my last week, glad you are back.

Hi ,

I'm glad the appt went well in that at least you don't have to fight

for a prescription. I remember being in the same boat as you having

to choose between the DOC and STARbands and asking our neuro who

knew nothing about the difference between the two. Sounds like you

guys have a good ortho and I hope everything works out well for

you! What a relief to know that insurance will cover it all.

Our trip was okay. On the way out there (driving from MA to

Michigan) the transmission went in my SUV that has LESS THAN 50,000

miles (!!!) so we had to spend two days on a little island near

Niagra Falls while it was fixed. So, $2500 and a couple days later

we finally made it to Michigan (hubby grew up there). We got to

meet up with Debbie and her Abby which was fun. I've met Debbie

before and she'd met Hannah (at the mod conference), but I hadn't

got to meet her Abby! So, today is my birthday and I really didn't

want a stinkin transmission for it, but oh well b/c that's one big

unexpected bill! At least the drive home was better--13 hrs w/no

issues.

  • 1 year later...

I've been curious for an update on Cole too! BTW, what was Cole's out of cast

numbers? Didn't he start in the 40's too?

I swear we need some sort of chart with everyone's numbers in it, lol! I can't

keep them all straight.

How's Cole doing with his under-the-arm cast? Are you both liking it more

than the first one? Hope so.

we love this cast so much better. cole has so much more mobility. however, he

won't crawl. he does the army crawl. just pulls himself around with his arms. he

likes to stand at the coffee table and play, but he can't pull himself up, so i

have to put him up and then put pillows all around. he is top heavy and

sometimes timbers over. when he falls, it is hard. i'm alittle worried about

meeting milestones. sometimes i wish he had aready walked before casting. if he

doesn't walk by summer, i am going to look into physical therapy. i think he has

the strength, it's just the balance and will.

Jenniffer c.- two dr.'s looked at the same xray. one measure it at 40 degrees

and the other at 48. we just say 45 since it's right in the middle. out of his

first cast he wasaround 25. in his second cast he is 15 degrees. we are hoping

for 5 degree correction with each cast, but that might be a high expectation. if

that happens, he'll be at zero by end of summer. i think a chart to keep track

of everyones numbers would be so helpful. i wonder if we could come up with some

sort of spread sheet that people c

Hope all is well.

michelle,

thanks for the update on cole. it's amazing what little ones

can do when they set their mind to it. i'm sure that he will

come around to walking once he gets his balance. i bet that

pt can't hurt though.

as for the idea of putting together everyone's #s, there is a

database option on the group. it would be a matter of someone

creating a table that would fit our needs. they have some

generic databases, but they would have to be modified. i

haven't looked into it in any detail, but i bet it can be

done. that way, whenever someone has an update to add, they

could do it themselves, i think. rather than have one person

try to manage everyone's information.

any volunteers?

I'm glad Cole is doing well. It must be difficult to see your little guy take a

fall in his cast. Jake still falls every now and then. You've seen how tall he

is, and it's true that " the bigger they are, the harder they fall " . Oh, the

sound of that cast hitting the floor!

Give him time for his milestones. He'll make it. And who knows? He may walk

before he crawls!

So, it sounds like we are about the same in regards to degree of curve and the

amount of correction, although Ian's numbers in his cast are lower. That does

make me feel better though knowing we are getting about the same results.

Thanks .

I think it would be cool if someone could come up with a table that we could use

to compare numbers.
