Guest guest
Looking back on when 's symptoms first appeared, he was about 2 years and 10 months. He has never been much of a meat eater and certainly wasn't at that age. He very rarely would eat the meat that was being served for dinner. That's all I have on the subject. Does that help? Here's another one for everyone. Some mother's that I know through the MDA and I were all out to lunch last week. We started comparing Prednisone side effects we had seen in our children and it seems that one thing all the kids had in common was an incredible craving for pancakes once they started taking the medicine. ate them all day, every day when he was getting his infusions. I was often making flap jacks at 10:00 at night when he was too hungry to sleep and that was all he wanted. He still eats them almost daily. These were kids who never asked for a pancake until they started on Pred. Just seemed like an odd trait to all have in common. That and chocolate milk. All the kids seemed to also have a greater increase in chocolate milk cravings. Anyone else? Guest guest
Hi Cari.... While I was on the higher dose of Prednisone I also had a craving for pancakes. I really had to try hard to NOT make them. Now that I'm on the really low dose, I haven't had any pancakes. I didn't have any cravings for chocolate milk. I never gave it any thought until you mentioned it. My next big craving was for cheese. I can understand the cheese because it's protein. But, whats in pancakes? Hmmmm..... Now that is strange. Guest guest
ate a cheese sandwich everyday the first year he was dx. Cheese on bread. No mayo, meat or anything. Just cheese on bread. Still has it a couple times a week. That is so odd. Also, carrots. I was afraid he was going to turn orange he ate so many baby carrots dipped in ranch dressing. Guest guest
Oh my gosh, is my kind of guy. I also eat carrots with ranch dressing. I can't say I had a craving for them ... they just taste good. My doctor at the time told me that my body was requiring more protein because I was using it up as fast as it was going in. I would think it would be for repair work. Don't you? Vicki
Guest guest
Vicki, That makes sense. I once read an article on people who live to be over 100 years of age. One of the things they had in common was that carrots was their favorite vegatable. still eats them but not daily and not by the bag. Guest guest
I agree with Vicki that he was craving protein his body needed to repair his damaged muscles. His cheese cravings have definitely decreased since he has been doing so well. Guest guest
Hi Cari.... I still love carrots but like I've cut back on them. If I'm not mistaken, don't carrots turn to sugar? I think I heard that somewhere. Maybe that's why we ate them so much...for that extra surge of energy. Hope you're having a good weekend... Take care, Vicki
Guest guest
Yes! You are right again! Carrots are high in natural sugar. I guess your bodies needed it for something.
