DES MOINES (AP) -- A plane reported missing after it took off from a Chicago

area airport was found nose down in a farm field near Brooklyn in eastern

Iowa on Thursday.

All four people on board were killed, Federal Aviation Administration

spokeswoman Isham Cory said.

" I was told the farmer found it in his field, in the last 15-20 minutes, "

she said.

The plane left Chicago about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday bound for Ankeny, just

north of Des Moines and had not been seen or heard from since, according to

the Iowa State Patrol, which was alerted Thursday morning.

The plane was a red and white single engine Piper with four people on

board, a patrol dispatcher said. Their names were not released.

The FAA said the plane left Palwaukee Airport, a municipal airport about 18

miles from Chicago.

Officials received a call about 1 a.m. Thursday from the pilot's wife,

saying she had not heard from him, Isham Cory said.

The FAA alerted airports between Chicago and Des Moines to see if the pilot

might have landed elsewhere, she said.

The plane is registered to an Arizona address, she said.

The Iowa Civil Air Patrol had begun searching for the plane Thursday

morning, Maj. Halbrook said.

The National Weather Service reported no severe or stormy weather on

Wednesday in western Illinois or eastern Iowa. Meteorologist Jeff

said winds were light over western Illinois, while skies were generally

cloudy in eastern Iowa.
