Guest guest
There's some great stuff in the movie Drop Dead Fred but it also makes me cry buckets. Guest guest
I seem to be drawn to these types of movies/tv shows :-) Recently, I've been watching Big Love (the HBO series about a polygamist family living in the suburbs in Utah - on DVD). It is completely bizarre and filled with really dysfunctional family dynamics. And a cult. And a woman who definitely shows the signs of BPD. Running with Scissors - another movie that comes to mind. There are tons of others, I just can't remember titles at the moment... I'll have to check out Titus - it looks intriguing. - > > Given that we had such odd childhoods, maybe you'll agree with this... there are some really funny movies out there for those of us who have had these issues with our FOOs (which is a funny word too because it sounds like the french word for CRAZAY (fou)). > > I recommend: > Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (especially the beginning) > Titus (TV series) > > ...does anyone else out there watch other movies that make them kind of step back and laugh at the whole BPD situation? Guest guest
I'm attracted to reading a whole bunch about these things...yeah, I'm fascinated with stories like " Escape " by one of the Jessop wives who escaped the cult-like FLDS group with her 8 kids, or " I'm Perfect, You're Doomed " about growing up Jehovah's Witness...another similarly crazy group with dysfunctional families. The latter book is one of those funny stories. There was another one...oh...what's the name of it?? Aha, The New York Regional Mormon Halloween Dance. I was in stitches the part where she tried to dress up as a fortune cookie for one of those dances, but it got bent in transit and ended up looking like a giant female part... I'm going to enjoy this thread! And will read any suggestions when I get time... > > > > Given that we had such odd childhoods, maybe you'll agree with this... there are some really funny movies out there for those of us who have had these issues with our FOOs (which is a funny word too because it sounds like the french word for CRAZAY (fou)). > > > > I recommend: > > Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (especially the beginning) > > Titus (TV series) > > > > ...does anyone else out there watch other movies that make them kind of step back and laugh at the whole BPD situation? Guest guest
Now that I think of it, I am drawn to programs about cults, mental illness, crazy situations. I am very intrigued by old mental hospitals (Loved: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest). And recently have gotten addicted to Dexter. ~patricia Re: Finding funny in the crazy I seem to be drawn to these types of movies/tv shows :-) Recently, I've been watching Big Love (the HBO series about a polygamist family living in the suburbs in Utah - on DVD). Guest guest
Under the Banner of Heaven....a book by Krakauer (I think that's how you spell it) a very good book on the cult aspects of a religion. ~p Re: Finding funny in the crazy I'm attracted to reading a whole bunch about these things...yeah, I'm fascinated with stories like " Escape " by one of the Jessop wives who escaped the cult-like FLDS group with her 8 kids, or " I'm Perfect, You're Doomed " about growing up Jehovah's Witness...another similarly crazy group with dysfunctional families. Guest guest
Less dysfunctional than Titus, but still enjoying the dysfunctional family in general: Arrested Development (got to LOVE the mom) Stuart Saves his Family ________________________________ To: WTOAdultChildren1 Sent: Fri, March 5, 2010 3:35:07 PM Subject: Finding funny in the crazy Given that we had such odd childhoods, maybe you'll agree with this... there are some really funny movies out there for those of us who have had these issues with our FOOs (which is a funny word too because it sounds like the french word for CRAZAY (fou)). Guest guest
I remmeber Titus; don't beat a woman after you have taught her to use a gun. very black humor. may we all heal > > Given that we had such odd childhoods, maybe you'll agree with this... there are some really funny movies out there for those of us who have had these issues with our FOOs (which is a funny word too because it sounds like the french word for CRAZAY (fou)). > > I recommend: > Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (especially the beginning) > Titus (TV series) > > ...does anyone else out there watch other movies that make them kind of step back and laugh at the whole BPD situation? Guest guest
I REALLY enjoyed Drop Dead Gorgeous. Obviously BPD mom, done by Kirstie Alley. Highly irreverent, highly funny. And poorly marketed--all of the materials didn't describe it well. > > Given that we had such odd childhoods, maybe you'll agree with this... there are some really funny movies out there for those of us who have had these issues with our FOOs (which is a funny word too because it sounds like the french word for CRAZAY (fou)). > > I recommend: > Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (especially the beginning) > Titus (TV series) > > ...does anyone else out there watch other movies that make them kind of step back and laugh at the whole BPD situation?
