Guest guest
Hello Welcome to the group. I think that if you are happy with Lucy's headshape, and you do not believe that she would benefit from a helmet than there would be no reason to go forward with the banding. Did the ortho take measurements? Guest guest
Hello , Welcome to the group! You are not butting in with your post whatsoever, please post with any questions and concerns - we are here to help! The decision to band or not to band can be a difficult one, especially since there are no clear-cut guidelines or asymmetry standards broadly accepted across various specialties in the medical community in regards to plagio treatment; this decision can be compounded if the case of plagio isn't severe. The only feedback I have about your post is in regard to your ortho's assessment that being over a year old is one of the factors why he wouldn't recommend a helmet. I am wondering what type of helmet or band that ortho uses, since older babies certainly have success in active bands. There are actually over 20 unique FDA approved helmets and bands, and many more that exist, but aren't FDA approved. They don't all have the exact same design, treatment protocol, or adjustment schedule. We have many group members with marked success in a baby over 12 months old with active bands, which can be used up to a max age of 24 nmonths old in the case of the DOCband. Not all bands are recommended for starting use in a baby Lucy's age, because she is considered too old for effective use in those types of helmets. We ended up not helmeting or banding our daughter, Remy. We made our decision on how her head looked like at that time (we were happy with it), as if it wouldn't improve in the future. Since you really can't tell which babies would round out or which ones won't, it's best to make the band/helmet decision on the current headshape your baby has. It's best to ask yourself are you completely comfortable with Lucy's headshape if you were to see NO further improvement? Where are you located? We have such a large group, perhaps someone would be able to share specialist or ortho info in your area to help you with your decision. Take care, Christie (Mom to Repo'd Remy) --- In Plagiocephaly , " waleyewil " <waleyewil@y...> wrote: > Our daughter Lucy is 13.5 months and her " developmental " doctor told > us that she thought we should try a helmet. Guest guest
Thank you all so much for your generous time and help. We are seeing different ortho. on Thursday and then we just got an appointment with a neurosurgeon next Monday, who has worked more with the helmets and can give a second opinion. I will post measurements and pictures when I figure out how. I would like to know if I am just " not seeing it " because I 'm her mom. I really can't thank you enough in advance for your help. > > Our daughter Lucy is 13.5 months and her " developmental " doctor > told > > us that she thought we should try a helmet.
