Howdy Molly, and welcome!

My Jaden has been in his CranioCap for 3 weeks now and every time

it's removed for a break he itches his head until he's relieved. I

help him by rubbing it for him right away w/ a soft cloth and he

totally leans into it and sometimes grunts and growls, lol, it's

kinda funny. And then sometimes what he really loves is a nice warm

washcloth put over his face and head and he totally relaxes after

that. I also use Aquaphor which is like Vaseline on his head before

the cap goes back on. There is a pediatric lotion that helps w/

itching and even eczema called Shikai Borage Therapy. See this

link: http://www.drugstore.com

I copied and pasted the description for you below.

For Dry Skin That Just Won't Go Away.

Pediatric Formula - For children and young adults

Provides Long-Term Relief

ShiKai Borage Therapy Pediatric Formula can provide long-term relief

for children teens and young adults who suffer from chronically dry

skin. The active ingredient, borage oil, is a rich natural source

of gamma-Linolenic Acid, which can improve the ability of skin cells

to retain moisture.

Unlike ordinary moisturizers that work only on the skin's surface,

borage oil provides a deeper, longer lasting effect. In clinical

studies(1), it has been proven effective in treating atopic

dermatitis and other skin disorders.

The redness, cracking, itching and other common symptoms of chronic

dry skin can all be helped by the daily use of ShiKai Borage Therapy.

This lotion has been formulated especially for children, teens and

young adults. If you are over 25 we suggest you use the Adult

Formula. It contains extra ingredients that work to help older,

more mature skin cells better utilize borage oil.

Hello Molly

My daughter did that as well, and we just tried to get her attention

elsewhere by giving her a toy so her hands were occupied. It

stopped a little after we graduated from the helmet. We usually

washed her head everyday with a cloth and only the soap that was in

the water. Additional soap tends to dry the skin more. (my opinion)

Hi Molly,

I think this is pretty much unavoidable! My Hannah has always done

this in her bands when we take them off. I'm sure the air suddenly

hitting their head makes the sensation to need to itch! As long as

he doesn't have a rash, I really wouldn't worry about it. If he's

sweating alot you could try wiping his helmet out a few times a day.

My 7-month old just got his helmet last week too and is starting to

have this problem. He already has a little eczema on his head anyway,

so we try to keep him from scratching as much as possible. I've been

using a moisturizing baby shampoo for daily use and then use diluted

Selsun Blue moisturizing shampoo every 3-4 days.
