Guest guest
Hello Everyone Unfortunately this is my second time in this group. My first child was diagnosed with plagio back in 2002 and we did the whole thing, helmet, keeping him off his head etc. Then in 2004 I had a daughter who right off the bat I did not let sleep on her back. I rotate her every feeding and had foam cutouts to support her neck while she sat in a bouncy seat. I had her in a exersaucer at age 2 months and do tummy time every day. Once she started lifting her head, she started sleeping full time on her tummy. I get up 3 times a night to make sure she is still on her tummy. Well unfortunately around 4.5 months we started to notice that her head is flat on one side. The opposite side my son was. It took awhile with Doctors referrals etc, but she has been diagnosed with plagio (like I suspected a month ago). I have a few questions that I would like to get some feedback on. 1. Has anyone else encountered this problem with more than one child? I keep being told it is positional, but this child has only been on her back while in car seats (which is daily but no longer than 30 minutes a day). I can't believe that the cause of this plagio is because of back sleeping. 2. Second, is 6 months too late for a helmet? My first child was in his by 4.5 months and out of it by 12 months. I am worried that it might be too late to do any good for my daughter. Thank you in advance for your input and advice. At least this time I know what to expect and what I need to do, and I am glad that there are support groups like this one to help. -Kair
Guest guest
Hi Kair - welcome back (well, not really!! grr huh?). Let me answer your ?'s below: > 1. I can't believe that the cause of this > plagio is because of back sleeping. A) Yep, we've had several members who had more than 1 non multiple child w/plagio. We recently had another mom post with her 2nd baby now dealing w/plagio again after her 1st wore a helmet. There's a poll in our POLLS section about this. > > 2. Heavens no - you are not " too late " by any means!! What helmet did your son wear? He must've worn a passive device. Did he get good correction? Many of our babies aren't banded til age 8 mos or so and still get great correction. Some babies begin after age 1 even and they still get correction. Guest guest
HI KAIR i agree with what the others have said ABSOLUTLY NOT to late. You are in a prime time to have your baby banded if needed. I have a 5 months old daughter we have been repoing for 5 weeks now. we have sen alot of improvement. She has an appt with a neuro on the 15th to se if she will need a band or not. Like the other have said most babies arent banded till 8 months so you are right on track. Let us know what you decide ok Sheri Mom to Kadie (repoing for tort and plagio) > Hello Everyone > > Unfortunately this is my second time in this group. Guest guest
I recently spoke to a doctor who said that newborns' heads are the consistency of cardboard. I would bet that there is a range of skull densities in infants, making some more prone to plagio than others. 30 mins in a car seat for one child might be akin to six hours in a bouncy for another. I'm sorry to hear you have to go through this twice. Fortunately you know what to expect and boy, 6 months is a great age to helmet! Good luck to you. , 19 mos, tort, DOC Band 5/
