Guest guest
, I'm sorry but I agree with you, I don't see improvement either. How old is your daughter? How much experience does your ortho have? --- In Plagiocephaly , " " <katiemammen@c...> wrote: > Now I need everyone HONEST opinion, I really don't think that after > 8 weeks of banding she hasn't changed that much but that why I > posted then to get some opinions, I know it's never going to be > perfect but I just don't see hardly any change. Guest guest
, After 8 weeks of treatment, I'm thinking you should see more improvement as well. How old is she again? What does the ortho say about the lack of correction? I'm really sorry about this. Guest guest
, I just checked out the progress photos you posted of Abby. Mostly I focused on the top view photos so far. It appears you took them from approx. the same angle, but since they are facing different directions in the album, it was difficult for me to judge if any correction has taken place. I ended up doing the same thing I used to do with Remy's progress photos during repo - I increased the size, printed them out, and traced the headshape outline onto tracing paper, divided the image into quadrants, and overlayed for comparison. I DO see subtle improvement in her top view progress photo. The right side of 's head is more gently arched, instead of hanging out over her right ear in a more angled manner (as was in the before pic.) I noted a bit of right-side forehead bossing in her before picture, which is not apparent anymore in the 8 week progress photo. The right side of the back of her head appears to have nearly caught up with the left side of the back of her head (which must have been held by the band) after 8 weeks also. Overall, when I compare the " quadrants " of the top view of her headshape, the quadrants after 8 weeks are more symmetrical in size. I would say that after 8 weeks, the symmetry of 's headshape is a small, noticeable improvement. I would have hoped for more dramatic improvement in 2 months in the band. What you may be observing, leading you to see little to no improvement, is that there has been no elongation of her headshape (improvement in cephalic ratio.) The back of her head has been held by the band to make it more symmetrical, so it does not appear to me that there has been any overall " popping out " of the back of her head. The back of her head still retains brachy-type characteristics. I would be concerned about the lack of progress in the overall rounding out of the back of her head. Could you bring up your concerns of increasing 's head length at your phone call, etc. Now that her head has increased symmetry, can her holding points be predominantly on the sides of her head, redirecting remaining growth outward to the back of her head? My understanding of orthotic correction, is that the band is supposed to be able to tackle all the problems of a combo headshape (plagio/brachy) at the same time, rather than the plagio first and then brachy. Take care, and let us know that the ortho says about 's headshape progress after 2 months in her band. Guest guest
Hi I just wrote to you but wanted to respond in a group message. I see some progress and I suggest taking some pictures outside in the sun so that there aren't any shadows (on a warm day since her hair would be wet!) I would absolutely talk to your ortho and do not be concerned if you are questioning his expertise. As I had said Colin's band was only recently cut into the back to address more of the brachy vs rt sided plagio that he had, just like Abbey. I know that growth is slowing but there is still time for more improvement and of course there heads continue to grow until they are 3. Please let us know how it goes. HUGS Sue Colin F. 11 mos.
