Guest guest
Thanks-- your mail made me smile. I agree totally with you and it is nice to hear another parent say that. We've had a frustrating month-- 's Phonaks conked out at the beginning of December and I took them to the audiologist to send out for their annual refurbishing. A week later I didn't hear anything and his backup aids were so not helping so he wouldn't wear them, so I called her and called her with no response. Finally I had one of the receptionists grab her in the hall-- OOPS! she hadn't sent them out yet. But she had us come in on the 12th to see what we could do about reprogramming his old Resounds. OOPS! The EPROM was old and wouldn't hold a program so the aids were glorified ear plugs. Sorry, gotta live with them as is until we get the Phonaks back. Right after Christmas I decided we had waited long enough. (A month of agression from poor who was SO frustrated because he couldn't hear. Too many comments from his teacher who immediately noticed he was causing trouble and bothering other kids-- so unlike my sweet little boy.) I call the audie, who's out 'til after New Years. I call Phonak, who said they sent them back to me on Dec. 20-- 9 days earlier. So where are my sons aids???? I called Airborne Express-- no, they had an airbill but no package. Called Phonak back. Gee, we don't know where they are. AAACK! Ok. They're sending me a new pair as backups- should be here Tuesday or Wednesday. Take a vote-- are the old aids gone forever??? I think it's going to be ok. It's pretty minor compared with what others have to go through since is only mild-moderately severe. And no, 's audiologist is not horrible, but she is overworked and so nice so it's hard to want to bug her with her pager & stuff. I think that Phonak will let us keep the replacement aids if 's original ones never turn up. Sorry for the long post. It's nice to be able to rattle off the story to people who have gone through it and know what it is to live with a child who can't hear as well as they could if their equipment worked properly. Let's all have a happy new year with a minimum of these problems! -Daphne p.s. I think the moral to this story is to get HAs refurbished any month but December. A similar problem happened 3 years ago with 's ReSounds. It took a month to fix them, then they got delivered to another house in our neighborhood. I had to wander around looking at packages on front steps trying to find his aids! > RE: Reply to Lori re Widex v.
