Amy, yes, in the US digital phones can cause interference with hearing aids (not just digital aids, but ANY hearing aids...it's usually interference with the telecoil, or with the inner workings of the microphone). I got a Nokia 5100 series phone, based on the recommendation of my audiologist. I've also been told that ReSound aids have better shielding than most from electromagnetic interference. Guest guest
has digital aids and I have a digital cell and we have not had any problems. What kinds of things have you heard about, maybe something I should keep my eye out for? ~ and 's Mom Lapain wrote: > Does anyone know about the use of digital phones with digital hearing > aids?? One theory is the difference between GSM and CDMA cellular technologies (the former more used in Europe, the latter in the US). Another is that Europeans are more conservative about the amount of emissions tolerated from electronic devices. I'll try to find more info on this and post it. Guest guest
Thanks for the link, it was very informative. This doesn't surprise my husband at all. His work phone interferes with his radio at work from four feet away. He knows before his phone rings that he's receiving a call because the radio goes berserk. (Excuse the tech talk) Our own truly unscientific test supports this. We tested two phones: Qualcomm/Audiovox analog/digital phone (was tested in a digital mode) and a NexTel digital radio/phone. We tried them with our sons' hearing aids: Phonak PicoFortes and Starkey A-13s, both analog. The aids performed pretty much the same. A higher volume setting didn't affect the interference volume. The Audiovox produced a deep scratchy hissing and the Nextel a hissing click. The noises dissappeared when I put the phone down. I'm guessing the ha compatible inputs whould solve the problem. I know this question was originally about digital aids, but I'm glad we tested ours to find out. We let our son try our phone once and figured this was the problem. The discovery process was even kind of fun. (I don't get out enough!) __________________________________________________
