A couple of questions

Hi folks - what a busy fall it's been so far! Two kids in school now (I can't

believe my baby is in big school - wow!), my office and lab moved - lots going

on.

I have a couple of questions:

First, maybe a month or so ago, there was a URL to an article on a website about

cost benefits of cochlear implants - it may have been a study that was done by

the AMA (I'm not positive about that, though). Does anybody have that URL saved

somewhere?

Second, closer to home - my older son, Tommy, is now in second grade and has had

a nice start so far. He's an oral kid, has a severe hearing loss, and is aided

in both ears. His speech is very clear - he's easily understood but does have

trouble with things like /ch/ and /sh/ blends. I found out today that while he

does have speech twice a week, he's always working with Mrs. G who is NOT an SLP

(I'm not sure what her qualifications are, truth to tell, but she's definitely

not an SLP). He seems to be progressing well - certainly he's not losing ground

(although the /ch/ sounds still sound like /sh/ sounds!) - my question is -

should I be concerned about this? My expectation is that the SLP would have

direct contact with him on a regular basis. I haven't yet checked his IEP to

see what that says and will do that, but apart from the IEP, can you guys let me

know your thoughts about this?

As always, your thoughts are so much appreciated!

Thanks

Barbara
