Guest guest
I bought a smallish bag at Safeway last week and they were over 5 dollars which is a lot..but 17 dollars.that's nuts..sus -----Original Message----- From: RN Battersby <<< bing cherries so bad I could almost taste them. So I went to the store and put some in a bag and when I went to the check out it was $17.25>>> I bought mine at the fruit stand in an orchard and the price was 2 pounds for $3.85, thought that was bad! The orchards are usually much cheaper than stores. How much were they asking per pound? And where do you live? in BC

It's like a discount grocery store much like Aldi and Save-A-Lot! As far as the cherries ringing up $17, i really don't think thats a correct price. Cashiers use codes when ringing up fruits and vegetables and with hundreds to memorize (hey it happens over time, ask me for a code and i'll know it) or look up sometimes the finger slips. When it rung up $17 did it specificaly say " Cherries " on the register screen? If it did it also could have easily been a code mix up with a different item or a bulk code for cherries. Check what the listed price was on the cherries in the produce/fruit section, not only will it list the price per pound but it should also have the code number right there on the sign. And all produce/fruit sections have scales of some kind, whether it's one that just weighs or ones where you can type in the code number and print out a tag with the price and UPC on it for easy scanning for the cashier. Guest guest
Being a checker at a major grocery store, I, too, have done that- I remember ringing up a lady somewhere around $90.00 for 1 flat of strawberries!!!!!!! Oops! " it also could have easily been a code mix up with a different item or a bulk code for cherries. "

Guest guest
Helen, The only thing I want to comment on, is, my BG's have not been in control since I was diagnosed in Feb. Recently, about the past 3 weeks or so, they have been almost " normal " , and the only thing I can figure is the fact that I am so broke, I am just not eating. I eat alot of sugar free Jello and pudding, yogurt, etc. but almost no meat and haven't been able to afford fresh fruits and veggies. I have also been losing weight. Last year at this time, I weighed 179. Today I weigh 158. I am a complete slacker about excercise, do you think that just NOT eating can regulate BG? Thanks, I feel a little lost as my BG is so much higher than anyone else has quoted but the Dr doubled my meds today so maybe I will really fit in. Guest guest
" it also could have easily been a code mix up with a different item or a bulk code for cherries. " That is probably the culprit. I once was charged about $625 for a small wedge of Brie. The register was programmed wrong. DUH!! The odd thing is that the cashier didn't even flinch when she quoted the toatal tab for a few items at close to $700. I wonder what it would have taken to get her to notice that something might be wrong. When I eat things like cherries or other sweet fruit, I have a very small portion. I will certainly go back for more in an hour or so, but still keep the portions miniscule. The BG doesn't do much this way. If I had a cup of fresh fruit, the BG would spike considerably. I guess it's just my system. My diabetes specialist (and he IS diabetic as well) says to enjoy a pint of Hagen Daz each day if I really want it, but have it over 8 servings throughout the day. Makes sense. I'm really enjoying this group. I don't feel alone anymore.
Guest guest
one thing I have found out this past week is that there are a lot of things out there that are not marked sugar free but are. I have also found out that if I call a head my favorite restaurant will do something special for me like have the boiled squash and things I can eat. They are also getting the salad dressing I eat. Now that's service. Yes it is nice to know that we are not alone. I started going walking today and to keep from looking as silly I took Tres-Seay my husbands fat toy terrier, She loved it so we maybe a pair on the walk everyday. Maybe she will get her figure back too. I feel a little lost as my BG is so much higher than anyone else has quoted but the Dr doubled my meds today so maybe I will really fit in.
