Guest guest
First of all, welcome to the group Sherry! Second, Sherry wrote: " more professional screening of candidates could solve some of the training challenges faced... " I was the original poster on the trainee thread. We used to rely on the " it's not what you know, it's who you know " method of screening and we have since advanced to a fairly good screening process. Our trainees take a general ed test (usually a pool of 200-300). We then take the top 25 and they take a dispatch-oriented test. We then take the top 15 and they go through a 45 minute long oral board (members of which include, supervisors, CTO's, asst. director, training division coordinator). We then discuss each interviewee and average the scores that each of us gave. We pick 5 for the hiring pool. The top two get backgrounds. This time we hired both of the top 2 picks. The one giving me fits was the top pick. He is a much better test-taker, interviewer than a dispatch trainee! LOL A.
