Guest guest
Krissy, You did everything you should have done. You put him on his back to prevent SIDS. When his head got flat you fixed it. It's so easy to blame yourself for the head shape though isn't it? When I look back now I don't think I would change PJ's back sleeping because wonder if he was a SIDS baby? It wouldnt matter one bit if his head was messed up if he wasnt alive. That's the perspective you have to look at it. You can't really blame your Mother In Law either cause she grew up in the era where nobody had their babies on their backs. About a month ago I would have readily told you I was terrified of graduation. All these wonder if's kept popping up in my head. But then I got to thinking enough is enough and I'm going to be happy with his results no matter what. I really think everybody goes through the pregrad jitters. Sometimes it's hard to figure out when the treatment is done. I refreshed my memory on phs pictures. He does look awesome and if even if his head decided not to fill out anymore he still looks completely normal. It may be that he is slowly rounding in other areas that are less noticeable. Are you still taking pictures? Guest guest
Hi Krissy I am so glad to hear from you. I seriously almost posted a request today for a ph update! I know that this week will be about 4 mos.? I, too, just looked at his 3 mo. progress pics earlier and even at that point I would've said that that head does not need a band. I understand your reluctance to stop and to want to get every little bit of correction that you can. What does your ortho say as far as how much more room is left in the band? What does your husband think? I'm so sorry about your MIL and SIL. I felt exactly the same way as you. I was scared to death of SIDS beyond normal levels! My mom told me to put him on his side and eventually we did, but it was too late at that point. She only made one annoying comment but hasn't really made me feel guilty about it. I understand that no one would've told me about it because who would ever say something bad about someone's baby? Hindsight is 20/20 and I would've tried repoing sooner but you just never know. Colin (and possibly ) may have had some birth trauma and/or just had softer noggins than some babies. You did the right thing to fix it. Not all mothers would have the guts to band their baby. Colin's ortho seems to think he should stop at 1 yr old and that would put him in the band for 12 wks or about 3 mos. I'm not sure I will be ready then either. He thinks that you have to weigh in growth slowing down vs. what correction you will get, yadda yadda. Obviously some babies start at 12 mos old so I feel there could still be more correction. I don't know what we will do yet but I'm sure that I would love to see him out of it as well. It's so hard to decide! Oh, we are seeing the ped neuro on 9/15 so we'll see what he says too. So, please let me know what you decide and PLEASE PLEASE post current photos (3 views?) of that adorable little man of yours! I need a ph fix very bad! LOL Hugs from Sue and Colin F. 11 mos. Guest guest
Hello, is one handsome little man! I have been wondering when his name may appear on the messages. I feel that my daughter has a very similiar head shape. I look at his changes and hope for some correction soon. We have had small changes in 9 weeks of helmet wearing, but any change is a blessing. I would be so nervous to graduate from the helmet as well, but it will be a wonderful step for your family. Congratulations! and Baby > Hi Everyone- > > went to get a fitting yesterday and we dicussed ALL the issues. On Sept 9th. > goes and see's his Neuro. Guest guest
Hi Sue, Thanks for the response. When I went to the Ortho. this week she said 2-4 weeks he should be out of the helmet. She said he shouldn't need another helmet and his helmet will hopefully be fine up to 4 weeks. I don't see big growth spurts anymore, but I notice the older children who get helmets get wonderful correction still. So, I don't know what to do because I am not totally happy with his head. As I mentioned to Crista, when he looks Down the back of his head looks flat. I definately think 's head was caused form delivery trauma. When he was born I thought his head really looked strange. I was in labor for 2 days and he was in posterior position. I was being induced because I had low amniotic fluid and he would not survive. After the 2 days his heart dropped twice and he went into stress. We had an emergency c-section. It was scary, but he was fine. Thank God. Hindsight is 20/20. I was EXTREMELY nervous about SIDS because my aunt lost a child to SIDS, my girlfriend's girlfriend lost her child to SIDS. I would check on him ALL the time. I hardly slept. I ALWAYS made sure he was wrapped like a burrito in his receiving blanket, with the positioned pillows on each side keeping him from rolling off his back. How ridiculous now that I look back, infants hardly move. We see our Neuro on the 9th of Sept. We are really going through this together. Good luck on your appt. I am such a fan of Colin! He is a SWEETIE! I love his update photos. He is simply adorable. I love the dimples. He is going to be a heart breaker. I am going to take photos of this weekend because his 4 month anniversary is tomorrow.
