your son sounds exactly like mine before he started to get well. what type if diet is he on?what brand/type are the probiotics?does he take any antivirals/antifungals, etc?MB12?you mentioned issues w/constipation.. how often is he stooling??? (stooling, AT LEAST, once at day is optimal for our kids, so that they can detox, etc.,) when he does stool, how are they? (color, consistancy, undigested food?)do you do.. Epsom salt baths?? support the liver, etc.,?? Sent from my iPhone

Hi all. I'm very thankful for this group and your wealth of experience.

I am new to the group and don't know where to start. my son Zach is 7 yrs old with high Functioning Autism and global apraxia. He receives speech, OT, social skills group therapy. I give him the following supplements: fish oil (nordic naturals/or moxxor), calcium/mag/zinc, houston enxymes, probiotics and melatonin at bedtime for sleep. He has many motor planning issues and has come a long way with speech. He really needs help with his behaviors: melt downs, impulsive, loud, doesn't get personal space, agressive, grumpy, etc. His face looks alittle pale and has always had some redness around the eyes since he was born. We had him tested by an allergist for food allergies- all were negative. he has some issues with constipation. He stimms by humming and pacing.

Does it matter where I start? Do I change to cod liver oil first? To I start with his diet? Do i remove the enzymes? Do i start giving olive leaf extract?

Any advice or direction/resource is greatly appreciated.

Thank you all.

Buckley's book, just out last year is a great, clear description of one way of thinking about bio med. Jepson, McCandless, and Bock all have great books which will give you really solid understanding. I also like an old book by Pangborn and Baker. I have appreciated working with a DAN that I feel I have a good partnership with, in healing my child. Alison M New to group- Where do i start? Hi all. Here's what I would do if I was starting all over again.

1. Even though child did not test positive for food allergies, I would remove

all gluten, casein, and soy to see if there was a difference. (and I mean all

traces.. not a spec or morsel of derivitive of) Then after 6 months, I would

retest for food allergies. Lots of these kids go allergic to corn and egg.. or

are intollerant of them. It's something to remember. If you are making

progress, and things fall back to where they were, it is usually a new food

intolerance or a bad food infraction. My kid is GFCFSF, corn, egg, quinoa,

peanut free too. After 3 years of this, we are now adding back in some corn

derivitives which allow him to eat more variety... (Xanthum gum, ascorbic acid,

citric acid) We use trienza too... keep him on that even with the diet...

2. I would test for heavy metals using a provoked urine test. It is the only

test that insurance companies use to allow coverage for chelation. We toyed

around with hair and porphyrine first and it only delayed things.

3. Get to a metabolics expert and have a complete metabolics workup done.

4. Head to a GI doctor and get an organic acid test, a comprehenseive stool

exam... We had to get our own tests done before we were allowed to see the GI

doctor.

5. The order in which we added in supplements was good for us,, codliver, then

epsom salt baths, the C, the D, E, then calcium/mag... ours are all allergen

free including corn.

6. Be sure to journal everything, keep a video log, ask all teachers to write up

reports on progress for better or worse

7. Anytime you see something for better or worse, you get into the ped and let

them see it with their own eyes. Take pictures of poops or deliver stinky

specimens when needed. Take notes at every doctors visit and always make sure

someone else is there as witness if you are tyring to get coverage and they are

telling you no.

8. After you have all the proof you need that your child is sick, you go after

insurance for being negligent for anything they are not covering.,,,

This has all worked out very nice for us.

My son recovered from his quirkiness after implementing diet. He never received

a label, and I think that is why we were able to get as far as we have

medically. His chelation is covered! We can see that his immune system is

recovering too. We have been blessed, but we fought hard to get where we are.

If your child gets a label, your insurance will continue to use it as an excuse

to not cover y our child's medical needs. Good luck in your adventures.

Hi Tillie,

What I know about behavior issues is that they can be moderated with diet. try

the GFCF Diet. My son was a totally different kid only 3 days into the diet!

that was 2 and half years ago when he was first diagnosed. from my experience

the cleaner the food you give him the better his well being will be therefore

his behavior. The gut is the 2nd brain, when its healed the brain will heal.

Good Luck!
