Guest guest
http://www.ca.gov/Employment/UnemployDis.html Dana, if it comes to it, you should, what with your problem with walking, be eligible for any number of programs, depending on what your doctor thinks. Amazing how the disabled or handicapped seem to be the first to be laid off. I am so sorry that this has happened to you. If your job performance was good, there may be an actual discrimination issue here. Love to you, and hoping that you do receive all your personal items. n, who is a bit stunned, perhaps in sympathy Re: From Dana: Bad News Monday I'm sorry Dana. That is just terrible they shut you down before you could speak to anyone after nine years of doing your best for them. Very cold, I think their HR needs to learn some compassion especially in these hard times, the jerks! I hope you find something fast and I'll keep you in my thoughts. The HR person came into my office around 11:00 this morning, closed my door and put my manager on the speaker phone to let me know I was laid off. The reason is the economic downturn. So, after over nine years with the company I was given about 30 minutes to pack up and go. They'll ship me the rest of my stuff. My PC was locked down immediately and I couldn't get to say goodbye to anyone. I do get a severance package. But, it's still a big blow to my ego (even though it had nothing to do with me or my performance) . And, my biggest worry is finding another job and having medical coverage. In the short term, I'd just started taking Fall Semester classes at college. And, I'll try to pick up an additional course. One person said I can't get unemployment if I'm going to school. Any truth to that? --Dana F. Utz utzdanacomcast (DOT) net It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. Find your travel deal here.
Guest guest
the American Red Cross is notorious for firing you when you get disabled and they are joined in their collusion by Aetna insurance that also has Medicare - Re: From Dana: Bad News Monday I'm sorry Dana. Guest guest
Hello, Thanks to those of you who wrote sending good wishes and thoughts my way. I've been scrambling to get things sorted out the past 24 hours. I've had to rush to get as many medical appointments and prescriptions filled as possible before my medical and dental coverage expires. I went to the dentist today to replace a filling that had been scheduled for replacement next week. Same with my neuro. I had an appointment for Sept 2 and had to get it moved up to Wednesday, Aug. 27. And, I had an eye appt. for Sept 12 that will now be this Friday. And, I had to put in a refill prescription for Copaxone and Neurontin before I run out of them. I also need to look at my budget and cut costs. I may cancel my Comcast Internet Cable and switch to AT & T DSL. So, I may change my email address for subscribing to this group. I went to my college classes today, too. So, I'm pretty tired now. I looked at the online application for unemployment and it looks long and complicated. Yuck. Initially I felt like taking time off and just going to school. But, after one day, I feel like getting ready to look for work. I mean, poverty sucks as we all know. We'll see. --Dana utzdana@... https://home.comcast.net/~utzdana/
Guest guest
Dana, it is not as if you are not (in all liklihood) eligible for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Medicare. http://www.socialsecurity.gov/ If you have a deceased parent, you may be eligible to receive that person's SSA dollars for your own SSDI! Cheers, n Re: From Dana: Bad News Monday/ links for Dana Hello, Thanks to those of you who wrote sending good wishes and thoughts my way. Guest guest
{{{{{{{{Dana}}}}}}}} I'm so sorry you were laid off. That had to come as quite a blow. I'm very sorry that you'll lose your medical coverage. I do hope you won't have trouble in the future with getting coverage again... and good coverage. It sounds as if you're getting things taken care of and life in place. I do hope your unemployment is short-lived. Guest guest
Hi, Challis: I'll be eligible for COBRA but it won't go into effect for a couple months. And, paying for insurance 100% is expensive no matter what. I'll be looking for work in the SF Bay Area. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the good thoughts. --Danautzdana@... Guest guest
It sure is expensive paying for insurance! Eeks. COBRA can be very expensive. Is it too bad?
